IMATS Competition in Sydney AU
I was chosen as a finalist for the Battle of the Brushes competition in Sydney, Australia!
What is IMATS ?
The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show, or IMATS, is the world’s largest celebration of make-up artistry. Thousands of make-up artists, exhibitors and enthusiasts discuss, display and collect the best the industry has to offer. Make-up pros from fashion and film (including Oscar, BAFTA and Saturn award winners) provide education and demonstrations at IMATS, and new products often debut there. IMATS also features a make-up museum and the Battle of the Brushes student make-up competitions, where international make-up students race to create winning looks.
If you don't know the whole story behind this, here's as brief as I can make it:
Last year I attended the Masters Program at Makeup Designory in NYC. There, I learned makeup for tv and film as well as sfx makeup (bruises, injuries, prosthetics, and making my own prosthetics). I've always loved how movies and things were put together and I've always loved art. I always tried getting into art growing up but never stuck with one form until I got into makeup. I love doing it and I hope to keep doing it as a career.
As for the competition (Battle of the Brushes ) ...
I applied for the IMATs in NYC and figured I would apply to Toronto and Sydney as well because this competition is only available to students who graduated within a year of the event.
I didn't make it into the NYC competition that was in April and I figured that was it and moved on.
On June 13th I recieved and email saying I was a finalist in the competition for Sydney Australia!
The competition is next month July 22nd.
This is a great opportunity to those who get to compete. It's not only a good networking opportunity but it's really good exposure to the professionals as well.
While getting notified that I am a finalist is very exciting, it's also a really last minute thing as I have to plan a way to get to Australia in a month.
Anything I get will be going to traveling fees as well as supplies I will need in order to put my all into this competition.
I certainly don't expect to meet the goal amount, but even the smallest amount can help.
If you do decided to help me out, it would be so helpful and it would definitely be appreciated!
