Chip's Kidney Transplant Fund

Donation protected

Dear Family and Friends,

I am writing this letter on behalf of my husband, Chip.  This is the most difficult thing that I have ever had to do, but I must do what I can to help Chip and our family face a medical crisis that threatens his life.  Chip was recently diagnosed with kidney failure, but is otherwise in good health.

Chip is a wonderful person.  He is a devoted husband and father of two beautiful daughters, ages 10 and 3.  He has been in law enforcement over the past 17 years, dedicating his life to protecting and serving his community.  He is a devoted Christian who has always given unselfishly of himself to help others.  Now we are humbly asking for your help.

He recently went on the kidney transplant waiting list.  He is pursuing a living donor for two main reasons,  (but there are many others) kidneys from living donors last, on average, twice as long as kidneys from deceased donors and the average wait time for a deceased donor kidney in the State of Tennessee is 3 to 5 years.

Here are some basic facts about kidney donation:

We are born with an extra kidney – you only need one to live a full, healthy, long life.
The majority of the donor surgery is done laparoscopically, with tiny incisions.
The recuperation period is generally 2 weeks for those with a desk job and up to 6 weeks for those whose job entails heavy lifting.
The surgery would be done at a hospital that has some of the best surgeons in the country.
All pre testing, organ removal, and post routine follow-up medical expenses would be paid by his insurance benefits.
Most donors say if they had another extra kidney they would donate again in a heartbeat and that it is one of the best experiences of their life.

Chip needs a new kidney, so would you please consider giving the Gift of Love and hope?  I know this is a big request however; I make it on behalf of someone who devotes every day of his life to making a difference to his family and friends.

If you are interested in becoming a potential living donor on his behalf, please visit www.vanderbilttransplant.com and click on the Kidney/Pancreas Transplant link. From this point, look on the right side of the page and you will see “click here to get started”. After you click on that, there will be other information for you to complete. At some point, you will need to enter his name (Burrel C. Davis II) and D.O.B., March 22, 1975. If you choose not to be tested or find out your body makeup is not compatible to his, there is still a way for you to help him.  A gofundme account has been established on his behalf to help cover medical expenses for this procedure as well as the cost for the immuno-suppressant medications he will have to take for the rest of his life. The gofundme account name is www.gofundme.com/zfra2vw.  If you can help, please do. If you know anyone who might, please forward this on. Forwarding this to your family, friends, work, school, congregation, or any other communities you belong to would be greatly appreciated.

Again, thank you for your consideration and may God bless each of you.

Sincerely,

Kelly A Davis
