Children Opening To Creativity

Donation protected
What is the Project?

The Dreaming Room is an art center where adults and children can learn to express their dreams and passions through painting intuitively, and explore their world of creative possibilities. It’s NOT about painting a perfect picture, because no previous painting skills are required.

The goal is to help children realize and develop their potential early in life, so they can contribute it to the world throughout their lives.

Why are we raising funds?
I am requesting your monetary and material donations to open The Dreaming Room Art Center. Here are some of the things I need to open the center: I need:

1.  Funds to rent a suitable space in an easily accessible location in Atlanta, Georgia, which includes utilities.

2.  Painting materials: paint, canvasses, palettes, easels, chairs, tables, dropcloths, cleaning supplies, etc.

3.   Social media and PR in various media to spread the word about this unique art center.

The Background on the Project: I am Joyce Dillon, RN, a Life Purpose and creativity coach. As a child, I never thought of myself as artistically creative, or possess any ability to paint. Yet throughout my life, I collected a variety of unique art objects including Southern folk art and shamanic, spiritual art.

After studying with several artists, I learned that we are all uniquely creative and have untapped talents. I started teaching a monthly intuitive painting class to adults from my home several years ago, and received great response! Students told me how much the process was helping them to relax, have fun and get clarity on their life issues, all while exploring their creativity.

Sadly, one of my students told me that her children’s school has stopped offering art classes. I discovered from research that this practice was happening in many schools across the US.

PBS Parents reports that in recent years, school curricula in the United States have shifted heavily toward the common core subjects of reading and math, and away from art education. Some even regard art education as a luxury, yet simple creative activities are some of the key building blocks of child and adult development.

In addition to developing creativity through art, children gain other important life skills such as confidence, perseverance, and the ability to focus, solve problems, handle constructive feedback, and communicate non-verbally, says Washington Post contributor Lisa Phillips, author.

The GOAL: Because learning to create and appreciate visual aesthetics is vitally important to one’s development, The Dreaming Room Art Center will provide intuitive painting classes for children (and adults!) who have had little or no opportunity to explore their marvelous creativity.

If you share my passion to help children tap into their rich wellspring of creativity, then please help me raise funds and donations to open “The Dreaming Room” Art Center, where everyone can dream within an enriched environment, and create beyond all possibilities!

Testimonials:

Thank you so much for a wonderful painting class! I truly let go. I felt joy during the first painting and felt inspired. When I started my second painting I sensed that my mind wanted to control what was happening. I stopped, breathed and just let go. It was a wonderful experience. After class I felt lighter and a greater sense of peace.
