$10,000 goal

Campaign created 10 months ago
La Maison employs a feminist frame in providing a safe environment for all Francophone women and their children victims of partner and family violence in Toronto to support them towards the recovery of their autonomy. Integral to its commitment to see an end to violence against women, those seeking shelter are offered with services that broach issues such as prevention, public and community education and awareness and exploration of personal rights and next steps.

Since its opening in 2013, La Maison, has hosted more than 135 children and Youth facing or experiencing domestic and family violence.

We have seen the traumatic consequences of being exposed to domestic and family violence on the development of children and Youth such as sleep and eating disorders, concentration disorders, behavioral disorders, and a break in the mother-child relationship.

The Child Witness Program responds to the growing need to provide services in French to children and adolescents in order to support them towards a new life without violence. It will take the form of sessions with front-line workers specialised in working with children and Youth who have been exposed to domestic violence. Its goal is to break the silence around family violence, a silence imposed by the desire to protect each other from the harsh reality of the violence, and actively takes steps to rebuild the Mother/Child relationship.

The first edition of the Benefit Cocktail which took place on November 25th, 2016, enabled us to acquire the necessary funds to finance the launch of the pilot Child Witness Program at the end of the summer. However, the budgetary requirements of the program remain substantial and despite efforts in seeking funds, the current resources remain insufficient.

On the occasion of the 2017 International Children's Day, La Maison is pleased to invite you to attend its second edition of the Benefit Cocktail, the proceeds of which will go to support this program.

Friday, November 24, 2017, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm (Address to be confirmed)

This exceptional evening, aims to raise public awareness of the importance of these children and youth exposed to domestic violence and to obtain the necessary support in French in this difficult period of their lives.

We would highly appreciate your continuation in this project with any donation you can make to help us to improve the children’s life.
