Chester's Battle Against Leukemia

Donation protected
On September 24, 2019, Chester Michael Ocampo or “Che”, 35 years of age, went to the doctor's clinic because he had not been feeling well for days due to cough, fatigue and fever. He also started to bleed in his mouth. After getting the results of his blood tests and X-ray, the doctor immediately referred him to the nearest hospital.

Chester is a hardworking dad who would drive for long hours (from Uber to Grab, to Lalamove) to make ends meet. Even if he's exhausted from work, he still finds time to drive for his elderly mom to buy groceries and maintenance medicines, or even to just go to the mall. He makes sure that he never misses his kids' doctor's appointments, Rubik's cube tournament, or other important events. He has always been the "cool uncle" in the family. Chester has been working day and night the past few weeks, in preparation for his daughter's first birthday party which was supposed to be held last October 11.

Meanwhile, Chester's blood platelets continued to decrease. A bone marrow aspiration was ordered to rule out all possible causes. For what was initially thought as dengue fever, the doctor has confirmed that Chester has Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (aPML), a form of acute myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the blood-forming tissue (bone marrow). Chester has not started chemotherapy yet due to limited financial capacity and unavailability of the medication. Treatment will be done several times a week. He will also undergo multiple blood transfusions.

The world has flipped upside down for Chester and his family. This journey may take a couple of years and while the doctors are optimistic about his prognosis, the road that lies ahead will be long and not without significant physical, emotional, and financial challenges.

On behalf of our family, donations of any amount are graciously being accepted and will be used entirely to help Chester win this battle. We are grateful for any contribution you can make and encourage you to share his story with others. And from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you! Your prayers and support mean more than you could ever possibly know.
