Chemo for Zoe : Thank You

Donation protected
Canine chemo is very expensive and Zoe needs treatments every 3 weeks in order to live.

Zoe's (and our) Story

In December 2010, after losing our beloved dog Brandi, I logged in to my computer and on a whim looked at pets on Kijiji. The first ad was for a German Shorthaired Pointer cross named Zoe. It was a breed I admired. A name I loved. And when I saw the photo I knew instantly that this was "our dog".

Zoe was up for adoption as her family were moving and were unable to take her with them. We arranged to meet on January 1, 2011. The second we met her it was as if she'd always been our dog rather than theirs.

Every day since then has been a pure joy with Zoe. Where we go (except for work!) she goes. She is loving, sweet, funny, smart, excellent with our two cats and makes us smile many times every single day. She is amazing. My husband and I both grew up in families with terrific pets but there is something about Zoe that is just a bit different.

We were absolutely devastated to find out in spring 2017 that Zoe (at age 11) has bladder cancer that can not be cured. Surgery is not an option. Chemotherapy is an option and the vets feel she is an excellent candidate. Chemo will extend Zoe's life from 2 or 3 months to, if we're very lucky, 12 months. However, she will need chemotherapy every 3 weeks for the rest of her life.

She is receiving chemotherapy at OVC in Guelph. They are doing a wonderful job with her and her quality of life is still terrific.  However, chemo, prescription medications, ultrasounds, xrays etc. are extremely expensive. We do not have pet insurance.

Zoe has just had the fifth treatment with chemo #6 coming up at the end of September. She's handling it so well and has the same quality of life as she had before cancer. Unfortunatley, we don't know how much longer we can afford the treatments for our girl.

If Zoe were in pain, experiencing chemo side effects, or her quality of life was diminishing, we would make that most difficult of decisions. It will absolutely break our hearts when the time comes. We just can not imagine our life without her.

However, while Zoe is still happy, lively, enjoying her walks and daytrips to Lake Huron for a swim now and then, we want to give her a chance.  Zoe's appetite for life and for food (lol) continues.

We do not want to give up on her when she is still enjoying life so much in spite of having cancer.

The thought of having to make a decision about Zoe's health care and her life based solely on money when ideally it should be made completely with her in mind is horrifying.

Treatments cost, on average, $500 every 3 weeks. Monies raised through this campaign will help us stretch our own personal funds.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. We want Zoe to have the chance to get the treatments she deserves and enjoy the longest, more joy-filled life we can give her.

100% of the donations will go towards Zoe's chemotherapy.
