Chebeaguers and Friends Supporting the Todd Family

Donation protected
Emily Todd, island girl, daughter, sister to her adoring brothers, lover of light and the most peaceful soul’s life was taken from this earth in early December by a senseless act of violence.

Many of you have asked how you can help the Todds after this horrible tragedy. The truth is that this is really hard. Grief is not linear, nor predictable. It has been very difficult for all of them to get back to their everyday routines. Vicki was in the process of starting a new business at the beginning of December and has been unable to work. Stephen has worked intermittently. They both need time to support the emotional well being of their family.

As the criminal case moves forward there will be more trips to Connecticut and more missed work time for both Vicki and Stephen. No amount of money will bring Emily back. This financial support is about creating space for their family to grieve how they need to and to take the time off that may be necessary.

For those of you who don’t know Vicki and Stephen and their boys, you need look no further than the island on which they live. Chebeague, a small town of 350 year round residents, sustains itself through community, volunteerism, and a hell of a lot of elbow grease. Stephen is a jack of all trades who’s never turned down an ask for help. “Call Stephen” is a popular refrain.  Vicki is one of many unofficial community organizer who’s led the charge on countless island initiatives, including the creation of a desperately needed childcare center. Cameron and Caleb are testament to the fact that kids learn best by example. The boys are always there - raking leaves at the Island Commons’ clean up day, clearing the pond for skating at Sanford’s, or helping their Aunt and Uncle sort oysters at Bluff Head.

For a family as capable and competent as this, it is not in their nature to lean on others. As their family and friends, we are reaching out to all of you to offer them a safe haven from this storm. The size of the gift doesn’t matter. This is about community, healing, and supporting those who need a little break from keeping this world spinning.

Gofundme requires that we give our donors full transparency so we are updating with this information- Sarah Mckinnon, Vicki’s sister, will be handling all of the money aspects of this campaign. This will remove one more stressor for Vicki and Stephen as she can take the funds out and deposit them into the Todd’s account as they use them. Thank you all so much.
