Charlie Ferrell Project

Meet Charlie…   A decorated Vietnam era Marine Veteran who was awarded a total of ten commendations throughout  his career, including the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, and Combat  Action.  Charlie needs our help.  He has been an active volunteer in Charleston’s local  Toys for Tots program for 45 years and conducted fundraisers for the financial support of children who require major medical treatment. Charlie helps others without thinking of his own needs. He is currently waiting on a lung transplant list and while he is waiting, his home is becoming uninhabitable.

Charlie does not have central heat or air.  He can only heat his living room and this is currently being done with the open flame of a propane tank fed heater;   Charlie is on oxygen which makes heating in this manner very dangerous. Holes in his ceilings and walls allow vermin entry into the home, the most persistent of which have been raccoons.  Charlie’s bathroom and kitchen are       virtually non-functional, except for the toilet.  The roof and soffits need replaced and gutters and downspouts installed.   At first glance, some may say that the home is too far gone, but it is comprised of block outer walls extending to the soffit and is well worth saving.  Like Charlie,  the bones are good.

Luckily, Charlie has quite a few champions leading a team to rehabilitate his home, but there is a lot needed:  your donation no matter how big or small will go toward giving Charlie simple comfort, warmth, and safety while he awaits his transplant and beyond. Right now Charlie is living on only 10% lung capacity.
