Ford the Creek for Charley & Susan

On Friday May 18, 2018 after a week of rain, the banks of Anthony Creek overflowed, washed away our bridge and everything in its' path.

No one around here remembers a time when the water has ever been that high. The ground was saturated from a weeks worth of rain. The water had no where to go.

At its' normal level, the creek is ankle to knee deep. Our bridge was 12 feet high with concrete bulkheads and steel beams.

We were stranded for 3 days waiting for the water to recede enough for us to wade across to the other side to a borrowed car parked on the other side.

The following Thursday the Caldwell County Emergency Service and the US Forestry Service came and built us a foot bridge. Yay! We are so grateful to them. It's made life so much easier.

While our ultimate goal is to re-build the bridge we lost, that is months away (and estimated to cost $60,000).

We feel our next step is to re-build the ford so that we can drive to and fro across the creek.

For materials, equipment and labor it is estimated to cost $3000 - 5000.

We hope to get started after the rains (yes, more rain!) are predicted to stop at the end of this week.
