United Way of the Wine Country

Hello. We are Gretchen Anderson and Carly Thomas, moms of Gage and Lucy.

Lucy and Gage held their first lemonade stand last weekend and decided to give half of their proceeds to charity.  When they learned about the wildfires a few miles away and that there were children there without homes, food or toys, and animals that need help, they decided to donate their money to help the people and animals in Napa, Sonoma and Yuba counties. 

We decided to start a Go Fund Me campaign seeded with their donation ($40) to see if they can increase the donation amount.  We also hope to show these 6-year olds that it is never to early to start making a difference in your community. 

The money raised will be donated to the United Way of Wine Country's Relief Fund and the Sonoma Humane Society  which is providing pet supplies and no cost veterinary care for injured animals.

My name is Taylor Shenton and I grew up in Santa Rosa, CA. The fires in Northern California have caused an indescribable amount of devastation. The footage of the mass devastations don’t do the damage justice.

My parents lost their home just like many of my friends and much of the community. I visited the ruins of the home of my parents, my best friends, the neighborhood: it’s all gone. The above photo was taken on this grim tour of the area in Santa Rosa but all of Northern California needs our help. It’s unsettling that in the blink of an eye, it can all be destroyed.

With time and healing, a lot of folks will be fortunate enough to start over. For others in the community, it will be a lot harder as they may not have the means, the insurance, or the energy to do so.

I started this GoFundMe to help the community collectively.  100% of the funds raised will be donated only to the United Way of the Wine Country.  I chose United Way of the Wine Country because they are supported by the Santa Rosa Fire Department and they are speading donations across non-profits for short term and long term recovery.

Relief efforts include providing basic needs services to individuals and assisting the non-profit agencies that serve the most vulnerable residents in our communities. Long-term recovery support may include food and rent assistance to help people who have lost employment, case management services, and mental health counseling.

Please give what you can, it will make all the difference.
