GL Ice Hockey
Want to join us in making a difference? We’re raising money to benefit the Governor Livingston Ice Hockey Team, and any donation will help make an impact.
The Governor Livingston High School Ice Hockey team is asking for assistance from family, friends, classmates, alumni, businesses and the community to help support a successful 2021 hockey season.
The NJSIAA Winter sports season started this year with rigid restrictions and strict guidelines for schools to proceed with competition. While primarily funded by the Berkeley Heights Board of Education, parents and players are responsible for a large portion of the cost associated with running the program. COVID-19 has greatly impacted or cancelled most of the traditional, in-person, fundraising events and opportunities the team depends on causing a 40% loss of fundraising revenue. Traditional fundraising impacted includes:
1. Paid Fan/Student admittance for attendance at GL home Ice games.
2. Sales of GL spirit wear at home games.
3. Sales of ads for the 2021 Team Program which allows local businesses to advertise their business to support GL Hockey along with team photos and player bio’s.
4. Other yearly team fundraising events - (Berkeley Heights-Winter Walk, ShopRite Bagging).
The GL Ice Hockey team has gained in popularity and prestige over the years, including in the three years since head Coach Michael Criscitello started, and is looking to make a run for the Kelly Cup this year. Students from Governor Livingston and New Providence High School combine to form the GL Ice Hockey team. This season the program has 36 players, the highest number GL Hockey has ever had in its history. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, ice practices for Varsity and Junior Varsity teams cannot be shared like in previous years. In order to practice and play in a safe environment, the Ice Hockey program needs two designated practice ice times, with two buses for transportation, and two separate coaching staffs while maintaining the Covid-19 Safety protocols for student athletes.
The loss of fundraising, an increase in safety protocols, and the most participants in the program’s history has caused GL Hockey to re-think the season. GL Ice Hockey is seeking financial assistance from the community during this unprecedented time to help close the budget gap for our players. No donation is too small and every dollar raised goes directly to the hockey program.
Thank you for your support and Go Highlanders!
