Epilepsy Foundation of Texas

On the 23rd May my 17-year-old daughter Faye unexpectedly collapsed to the floor whilst sat having breakfast. After 3 consecutive seizures lasting 15 minutes but seeming to last a lifetime and having me and Leah thinking we were watching her die helplessly in front of us, thankfully the paramedics arrived quickly and was rushed to hospital.

Fortunately, Faye came through this particular episode OK with just a few bumps and bruises. After multiple tests including blood tests, CAT Scan, EEG and MRI Faye has been diagnosed with having Epilepsy.

Having only a rudimentary knowledge of epilepsy, I have now done much reading and research and am surprised it is much more common than I and I guess many of you are aware with 1 in 100 people in western economies suffering from the condition.

The doctors are not sure how Faye developed the condition or what triggers it, but we are now on constant alert for the next episode. Faye cannot drive for 3 months and needs to keep seizure free, must take medication daily, maybe for the rest of her life.

The mission of the Epilepsy Foundation Texas is to lead the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives. 

We have been thinking of ways to raise awareness of this condition and hopefully raise some money for the foundation at the same time, Craig has graciously offered to run a half marathon in September for sponsorship.
