Charity Run for Dyslexic Children

Donation protected
Dyslexia is a  learning difference that affects as many as 1 in 5 of the population. When I first realized that my son, William, was dyslexic, I had no idea where to turn. Thankfully, a friend connected me with the Children's Speech and Reading Center of Northern Colorado

William began working with a reading specialist at the center 8 months ago. The positive impact on all our lives has been profound and dramatic! Not only has William's reading comprehension and fluency improved by leaps and bounds, he's also achieved a healthy sense of self esteem. He has put in so much hard work and still has a long way to go, but we want to give back to the organization that has done so much good in our lives.

The Children's Speech and Reading Center is a non-profit that never turns away any child in need. Their goal is to help every child reach his or her "full academic, social, and developmental potential." The kind of specific, explicit, and multisensory instruction that dyslexic children require can be cost prohibitive to many families, and we want to make sure that every dyslexic child is able to receive the excellent services that our son has.

For this reason, I'm asking you all to support me as I undertake an approximately 43-mile solo run on the Colorado Trail this summer. Don't worry-- I've done this kind of thing before! I've been running for most of my life, and in the past several years, I've completed more than a dozen ultra marathon events (including one 100 miler).  In so many ways, running alone through the wilderness is exactly what it feels like to be the mom of a dyslexic-- you may be exhausted and broken down, but you have to find a way to keep going, so that you can do what you need for your child.

Please consider contributing a donation to my run. All proceeds will go to the Children's Speech and Reading Center so that they can continue their mission of helping dyslexic children in need. The CSRC is Northern Colorado's only 501(c)(3) non-profit that focuses on reading and speech-language therapy. The center operates on a sliding scale and does not turn away any child. Donors like you enable them to continue providing free screenings and one-on-one therapy like William receives.

Thanks so much for your support!
