BioBiking: Holocaust toClimateMarch

Donation protected
As the daughter of Max Widawski, survivor of 11 concentration camps, I plan on cycling to Washington DC, leaving on Holocaust Remembrance Day, and arriving in time for the Climate March (4/29).  I will share my Dad's story (and what has become mine) along the way.

For the past 5 years, I have been presenting at NYC Public Schools through a collaboration of 3GNY and Facing History and Ourselves, using my personal connection to the Holocaust to  engage and activate others in fighting intolerance, bigotry, genocide and other atrocities - no matter who or where.

My article Never Forget: Holocaust Roots and Living Green, an Earth Week and Holocaust Remembrance Day Reflection (originally called Green and Greeneh in Lilith Magazine) links my "green-living", my activism and my appreciation of community, to the values ingrained in me as the child of someone who survived the unthinkable, who came to this country as an immigrant, and who taught me appreciation and respect for ALL OUR RESOURCES.

In DC, I will march with passion and commitment in the Climate March, fighting to protect our land, water, and air.   I also  plan to visit the US Holocaust Memorial Museum (I haven't been there since it first opened) and the National Museum of the American Indian.  I only had a chance to bike past it when I was in DC recently, supporting our vital water protectors and indigenous communities from around the country.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!

DONATIONS!
- $$ will potentially be used for any necessary expenses along my pedal-powered journey - but likely not too much  as I much prefer to fix my bike on my own, and to barter, share, swap, etc.  for all else!

- $$ will go towards supporting programs like 3GNY, Facing History Ourselves and grassroots environmental programs.   I am currently working with folks on a BIOBIKES project which will use bicycles as the vehicle for teaching/practicing bioremediation, using BIOlogy and BIOgraphies - natural science and social science to bring about positive change in our increasingly toxic world.

COMMUNITY! Suggestions, contacts, resources, etc
-  TIPS - Bikeroute or other bikepacking suggestions?
-  COMPANY - Want to join for part of the ride? In DC?
-  FOOD/LODGING -  Contacts for couches/tasty meals along the way or in DC?
-  BIKE- Have connections for a new/better bike or even some new components?  As of now, I plan to ride my beat-up, heavy, Trek hybrid - which I know will have me working harder than necessary!   If you'd like your donation to go towards a new bike, just let me know : )
-  PRESENTATIONS/EVENTS -Have a group of students or others for me to present to?
-MEDIA - Have (paid) outlets for me to write for? Or others who would like to cover my ride themselves?
-ETC...Feel free to share any other tips, thoughts, recommendations and contacts!
This is the bike I rode from the Degrowth Conference in Budapest to Vienna last summer.  International bike-sharing at its finest! I hope to fully develop this model.
Towards the end of his life, my Dad shared his story publicly at schools and museums.  It was always much harder to share with his family.  My Dad and I after presenting at a Yom Hashoah program at the JCC of Rochester, NY.NYC Public School students looking at my Dad's citizenship papers and other photos after a recent presentation.A sign at a recent rally/action I attended.
