As for as long I can remember my family has always been by my side. They were there for my State Discus title in San Francisco while competing for Cerritos College in Norwalk, California, they traveled to Iowa as I captured my 2012 NCAA National Discus Championship Title for San Diego State University, and they traveled to Eugene Oregon for the Olympic Trials for my bid for the Olympic Team.
More amazingly, they journeyed across the world to Moscow to cheer me on in the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Russia.
There is nothing more comforting to me than to gaze into the crowd and see my mom and my family cheering for me in the stands. I take the pride of my country and the honor of my family into every competition. Although I have the confidence of my coach; who I respect and admire greatly, I am most at peace when I'm surrounded by the presence of my family.
There's nothing more calming in competition than seeing my mom's smile; it just makes everything alright. Nerves can run rampant in competition, but seeing my family cheer for me and knowing they're near me in a foreign country is something that I just can't explain.
Here we are again, The 2015 IAAF World Championships are August 22nd-30th. Once more, I need my family by my side. Each trip gets harder and harder to raise money. For the first time, my family may not be there for me. The cost of airline tickets go up every year and unfortunately trip expenses do too. We've had yard sales and other fund raisers but still have fallen short for the money needed for the trip.
With August just around the corner, time is running out to raise the money we need to fund this year's trip.
More importantly, I'm afraid they may not raise enough money in time to support me and cheer me on to continue to celebrate the "big moments" in my life.
My family has never missed a big championship, they've always celebrated the big events in my life. I NEED THEM IN CHINA for the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.
