Chad & Kara Whobrey

Donation protected
11/20/18 - Chad and Kara were hanging Christmas lights on the outside of their home yesterday when the extension ladder slipped and Chad fell 15 feet face first onto the ladder and the concrete. He lost consciousness for a short time and was seriously injured. He was rushed by ambulance to University of Louisville Trauma Center.

We are creating this GoFund Me to help Kara & Chad start Chad's long road to recovery. He will require multiple surgeries and will not be able to work for quite a while. Kara will undoubtedly be at his side and be his own private nurse as much as possible.

This GoFundMe gives everyone a chance to help Kara and Chad get through this traumatic period in their life and ease their worries about money during this time. All donations are appreciated more than you can know.

Below is a Facebook update by Kara a few hours after Chad was evaluated at University Hospital:

Trauma-He has multiple rib fractures and several pulmonary contusions, but no pneumothorax or hemothorax. They will keep a close eye on his chest to make sure no blebs burst.

Spine/Neurosurgery-He has a T11 fracture and T12 fracture with a fragment that came off and is in the spinal canal. They have placed him in a turtle shell brace. The brace, lidoderm patches and pain meds have helped his pain slightly.

Ophthalmology- The doctor came in and dilated his eyes. He doesn’t think there is damage to the optic nerve, but is it hard to tell with all the swelling. They will continue to monitor and we have to notify them immediately if his vision becomes blurry or if he develops nausea or vomiting.

ENT- He has 3 orbital floor fractures. The swelling is keeping everything in place, but they are considering taking him to surgery to place a plate in his face. They said it doesn’t have to be tonight.

His nurse wife- He has received a thorough sponge bath and his arm pits smell better. I brushed his teeth and turned him every 2 hours to make sure he doesn’t get pressure ulcers. I am spending the night in the recliner next to him and thanking the good Lord every second that I still have him here next to me. He scared me today, more than I’ve ever been in my entire life. I couldn’t imagine my life without this man. He is my world.
