C Flux Art in Nigeria

Donation protected

Peace! For those that don’t know me, my name is C. Flux Sing – short for Craig Flux Singleton. I’m an artist here in Atlanta Georgia by way of New York City. I have been doing art all my life. Professionally, I have been freelancing in the form of graphic design and illustration for 20 years.

In 2005, I became aware of how important it was for me to create art from my own perspective. That means expressing my own feelings, opinions, experiences, etc., in my art. It’s part of my social connection to family, friends, the world and – just as importantly – myself. Art is a therapy like no other and it has kept me sane through some trying times. This is also when I started to explore painting and fine art for the first time and it was a glorious release.

Since then, I have continued to do graphic work for clients such as Nike, Scion, PNB Nation, Frank 151, Phife(from A Tribe Called Quest) and Smokin’ Needle Records, Mello Music Group, Boost Mobile and more. I even created paintings for Jack Daniels and Art, Beats and Lyrics Annual Art Shows, Guinness “Live it UP” Art Shows, Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, City Of Atlanta Cultural Affairs and Public Art Services, Custom Shoe for Sole Plus and The Chicago United Hoops Classic, Mural for Ronald McDonald House. I have artwork featured at The Schomberg Center for Research in Black Culture, a mural for The Atlanta Mission, featured work at ARTiculate Atlanta, Notch 8 Gallery and others. I have been growing in my art. I’m excited to see where I can take it.

With that said, over the last few years, I have been studying various aspects of African culture and it has definitely been an influence in my latest works (to come). Timing is something because I have recently received an invitation to accompany a group of travelers to the country of Nigeria this June, 2017. I will be there from 2-3 weeks, gaining hands on experience with African culture (philosophy, art, spirituality) from those that live it. I have never had the opportunity to leave the country, let alone as an artistic experience.

I’m really excited to learn about the philosophies because, as a Black man here in America, it’s rare to come across it without the influence of European insight. The same can be said for spirituality outside of modern confines. I get to experience day-to- day life in Nigeria. The city I will be staying in is Osogbo, in Osun State. I hope to see some of the galleries or museums out there as well. Nigeria’s art scene has been bubbling, especially since the “Art X Lagos” art festival last year.

I look to bring all of this influence and cultural richness back with me to the United States and possibly create an art show based on the experience.

The funds I’m asking for is to cover the trip expenses as well as some art materials.

I have a few reward levels for those who donate specific amounts. I appreciate all those who have taken the time to read, share and donate.

Thank you! All the best.

Peace.
