Hi! My name is Nina and a lot of you already know our story, buttt I’ll recap.
Peyton (4years old) has hypoplastic left heart syndrome, along with several other diagnosis that come along with it. In layman’s terms, this means he was born with half of a heart. He has had 6 heart surgeries, many cardiac caths, a gtube to feed as a baby, he was on life support for 7 days, and was listed on the heart transplant list for 61 days total. We never got the heart, but he thankfully has been able to be medically managed and we had a wonderful few “normal” years at home.
Recently Peyton become very sick with back to back pneumonia and parainfluenza. After a day in the hospital fighting off those illnesses we discovered he would need a pacemaker. He was transported via helicopter to Children’s New Orleans on July 17th. Placing the pacemaker required them to cut his sternum back open due to the multiple previous surgeries he’s had. After a few bumps in the road we were released on July 31st!
We had 1 beautiful week at home when I noticed his incisions were red and leaking gunk. On August 8th we travelled from our home back to New Orleans (3 hours) as they are really the only ones who can treat a kid like Peyton.
We have been here over a week fighting bad infections in his sternum and pacemaker pocket and it looks like we have a long road ahead of us.
During our current hospital stay, I’ve had a few ask if we still had a gofundme. I finally looked and it was inactive so I had to make a new campaign.
Many of the donations will go to food while here in the hospital, goodies and treats to encourage Peyton to get up and walk when the time comes (the gift shop is a big motivator as well as the ice cream in the cafeteria), gas money for his father and brother to come back and forth from Lafayette, and the medical debt we have/will continue to rack up.
