Celia's Healing

Backstory I am a travel nurse from FL, currently in Santa Rosa, CA. I first met Celia when her mother came to the hospital to deliver her little brother, Isaiah. Isaiah was in critical care for some time after his birth. During their stay in the hospital I had the pleasure of getting to know Blessie and her family, including only daughter Celia. She was so supportive of her family, especially her mother, during that difficult time. I had no idea at that time that I would be gaining an extension to my family here in CA. Celia is 22 years old. She is beautiful, sweet and kind. Celia is a college student and aspiring nurse. While in school she works as a CNA. She shows so much kindness and care to her clients. Celia is such a loving and caring young woman. She loves to hike and spend time with her family. Diagnosis Celia and her family were recently blind sided by a devastating cancer diagnosis, Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC). RMC is a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer. In most cases the cancer has already metastasized to other areas of the body at the time of diagnosis. In Celia's case it has already spread to her lungs, sternum and lumbar vertebrae. This type of cancer moves fast and is difficult to treat. Treatment As with any type of cancer treatment, there are no guarantees and the plan of care can quickly change or include multiple treatment methods, like chemotherapy, surgery and/or radiation. Celia began her first round of chemo this past Thursday. Treatments will be weekly as of right now. She has been advised by her doctors not to work and to put her studies on hold for the time being. Costs As we all know, medical insurance does not cover everything. Treatment for cancer can be lengthy and very expensive. As this cancer is extremely rare, there may be extra costs incurred for specialists. The money we raise here will go primarily towards medical bills. It will also help pay for Celia's apartment for which she is already in lease until July. She is moving home to have the support of her family but is still responsible for the lease on her apartment.
