Celebration of Indigenous Wisdom

DEAR FRIENDS:  What you are about to read is my humble request for your help with a project  that I feel totally called to do...

Sixteen years ago, just a few days after the 9/11 tragedy at the World Trade Center, I was fortunate enough to hear four words, spoken by my teacher, that changed my life forever.  “What is your responsibility?” she asked. Those four words cut me to the core and began transforming the way I related to the world – from powerless victim of life's circumstances to fully empowered human being.

Immediately, I began organizing, in my hometown at the time (Woodstock NY), an all-day, community-wide gathering that focused on the different faith traditions. One thousand people attended  – Christians, Jews, Muslims, Native Americans, Buddhists, Hindus, Sufis, Rastafarians, and many others, each sharing their faith and inspiration -- each honoring Spirit in their own way. I knew, then and there, that it was the utmost responsibility of all of us -- we the people -- to take a stand for what it means to be conscious, co-inhabitants of planet Earth.

It is now 16 years later. My home town has changed (from Woodstock to San Miguel de Allende), but the need for wisdom, peace, respect for diversity, and community has not. In fact, these needs have never been greater.

Towards this end, I am in the process of collaborating with an extraordinary, international group of people in San Miguel to produce a celebration of indigenous wisdom. The event, which will take place during the summer of 2018  and will feature tribal elders,  invokations, Concheros dancers,  sacred ceremony, story telling, music, art, community building, and opportunities for the children of San Miguel to take steps towards becoming their generation’s next “wisdom keepers.”

My dream is for everyone who attends to become encouraged, informed, inspired, and empowered to be active members of a worldwide movement to heal themselves and the Earth – one person, one community at a time.

For the past five months, I have been working non-stop on the project – meeting all kinds of amazing people who have stepped up to volunteer – from 13-year old children to 80-year old tribal elders.

That’s why I am launching my GoFundMe campaign. With a daughter in college and bills to pay, I cannot afford to volunteer all of my time.  Some of my time? Yes? But all of my time? No. So, I am reaching out to my friends and the friends of my friends and the communities of Woodstock and San Miguel to provide the support I need to continue coordinating the project.

75 percent of the funds donated to my campaign will go towards my salary.  25 percent will be used to produce  prints of my Concheros art (see images above and below) --  one of the primary fundraising and promotional iniatitives of the project  Half of the proceeds from the sale of my art will be donated to support the ongoing efforts of local Indigenous causes.

All donations, small, medium, and large, are very much appreciated.  Thank you, in advance, for any support you can offer. I really do believe that, together, we can make a profound difference!

Much Love,
Evelyne
