CDMX Earthquake 9/19/17

Facebook family and friends, thanks so much for the love and warm thoughts. Thank god I'm okay, but I really have never experienced anything like what I have the last 24 hours. So many traumatizing scenes, people scrambling looking for their kids, family, friends, dogs, etc etc. But the amazing effort this city has put to help one another is incredible. I was walking home from the grocery store when it happened, and men and women grabbed me and put me in their arms for all of us to stay together. As soon as we saw people trapped under falling things and collapsed buildings everyone's first reaction was to help and do what they could to keep them not only safe, but try to keep them alive. My heart is broken for those who have had their loved ones pass or for those still looking. I have full faith that this city will continue to come together and help as much as possible. I have created a gofundme page for those who wish to donate❤️. I am committed to helping and volunteering. This money will go towards;
water, food, shelter, clothes, shoes, personal hygiene products, schools, hospitals, and whatever else is needed for the people who are spending so much of their time to help, people who have lost everything, and those in hospitals fighting to stay alive.

I have been in contact with a man named Peter Winkers, who was recommended from a teacher that was coming to my yoga classes. He has organized foreigner groups here and other groups to strategically plan where and how we can help the areas that are not being touched. Most of these areas were left with nothing and havent had the help that others have thankfully had because they are in more rural areas. This is what Peter last sent me as an update and so I could stay filled in;
Earthquake Relief Effort UPDATE:
Donations for local initiatives that we organize and supervise THIS WEEKEND + the coming weeks are very welcome!!!

Today with Lidia Herrera, Peter Winckers and Ray Alcantar we visited the town of Tetela del Volcán, Morelos. We met the Sosa Family who graciously opened up their home to us. Several of their houses have been destroyed or heavily damaged and they had to set up camp outside. We were happy to see that to the contrary of the rumors circling around about the government blocking roads and not letting people donate supplies to the pueblos, there was a line of trucks FULL of supplies being delivered DIRECTLY to the people (food, water, clothing, and much more). We were also able to pass out basic supplies (bought with our own resources, not yet with donations), DIRECTLY to the families!

This week Lidia and Peter are organizing transportation for a group of volunteer architecture students from El Instituto Politécnico Nacional (ITN) to visit the Sosa Family and others in the neighborhood to examine their homes develop a construction plan and come up with a list of materials. With your donations, our plan is to purchase all the materials and tools and deliver them to the pueblo this coming weekend.

The quiet, mountain town of Tetela del Volcán in the state of Morelos sits right under the active volcano, Popocatépetl. The people who live there work mostly in agriculture and raising livestock. One man told us that to buy a bag of cement, which is about 150 MXN (approx $8 USD) it would take him 3 days of working in el campo

This just shows you how POWERFUL people-to-people fundraising is and how a donation as small as $5 USD CAN make a world of difference to someone in need
Anything will help I promise, and you have no idea how much it'll be appreciated. Thanks in advance and prayers for Mexico.

This was sent to me on Monday and we hope that the next couple of weekends we are there for the families to support and help them in anyway possible. Thanks so much and I will keep posting updates here. In the meantime, wish me luck on my Costco runs as it is a madhouse! Thanks again so much!
