Stop the Litigation of Whistleblowers

$3,300 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 24 people in 4 months
I gave up my job as a police officer, my salary, and still the police service is coming after me for speaking up about what goes on inside a police service.  I never agreed to keep silent about my experiences working for the Waterloo Regional Police Service, yet they are litigating me to try to silence me.  They are litigating me for speaking up, although I did not agree to a non-disclosure clause when I resigned.  The police service has spent over $203,000 to prosecute me, and yet I am self-represented and doing everything on my own.

I am fighting to protect freedom of expression for all Ontarians by improving our Anti-SLAPP laws.  I filed a Notice of Constitutional Question and our Attorney General recently decided "not to intervene."  I am not giving up. Police services should not be able to use the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal to silence critics.

I am now in need of funds to continue to fight them.  I was ordered by Justice Micheal Doi to pay the legal bill of the WRPS ($5,500), and I am not giving up.  Please help me to keep fighting and appeal the recent decision, as well as the ongoing case at the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal to try to silence me.

They are waiting for me to give up, to run out of money and support, and if this happens, they will have won the fight.

Any help is appreciated.

I learned today that our Attorney General does not want to intervene in my matter to change our Anti-SLAPP laws to protect people like me who are critical of police.

There's a "SLAPP" in the face.

Read the letter here: https://img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/fa7e6a84-e153-4c78-94a4-92479cc8234b/downloads/Non-intervention%20letter%20(July%203%2C%202019).pdf?ver=1562181326900

I had made the above request to the Attorney General following this decision by Justice Favreau: http://canlii.ca/t/hxbvk

Also, I recently received invoices, obtained through the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act that show that WRPS has spent over $203,000 since I resigned to come after me.

What does that say about my cost in all of this?

I appreciate all of the support you have shown me. Please share my campaign when you can and with whom you believe are concerned enough with these issues to donate, as it is evident the police service will stop at nothing to shut me up - no matter the cost to the taxpayers of Waterloo Region.

Thank you for caring and helping me.

A couple of days ago, I sent my Notice of Constitutional Question to Ontario and Canada's Attorney Generals. It is now up to them to decide if I am making a good argument to investigate the amendment of Courts of Justice Act 137.1 (our Anti-SLAPP law) to include Tribunal matters.

In my case, Waterloo filed a "Contravention of settlement" at the Human Rights Tribunal (instead of a breach of contract in civil court). That meant, that when I tried to have their case dismissed because it is a gag-proceeding, I was not allowed to. This has to change.

We can't have lawyers working around legislation that is meant to protect freedom of speech, in order to silence someone like me who never agreed to a non-disclosure clause when I resigned.

Please continue to share the link for my fund, as I have used up what was there to get this far, and the fight is far from over. Please petition the Attorney General of Ontario (Caroline Mulroney) and Canada (David Lametti) if you support my application for Constitutional Question.

Hello supporters,
Yesterday I attended an unsuccessful mediation at HRTO for the case Waterloo has brought against me and at the same time I filed my 3 volumes of evidence for the upcoming hearing.

For those who are having a hard time following, this is the "gag" proceeding. Waterloo brought a case against me alleging I violated my resignation agreement (which did not contain a non-disclosure clause) to try to silence me now, after the fact. I am filing a Notice of Constitutional question with this case to bring in the Attorney General in hopes of amending Courts of Justice Act section 137.1 that is supposed to protect free speech.

I welcome any media attention with my two ongoing proceedings (Ontario Court of Appeal and this HRTO). These are important matters for free speech when you are critical of police. They should not have the power to silence critics.

I, once again, could not have put this material together if not for your financial support, but I have now used up everything in my "legal fund" to prepare the paperwork and pay court fees. I will share the Go Fund Me page again once I have court dates, but please do what you can to spread the word in the meantime. They can't win simply because their pockets are deeper than mine. Thank you again!!! You all made this happen!!!

Thank you to all of my supporters!! You all made this happen! Yesterday, I attended the Ontario Court of Appeal and perfected my appeal against the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board and Bryan Larkin.

I could not have done it without your help, as just my court fees and printing costs used up almost everything I had raised to date, (and that's doing it all on my own, even the cerlox binding!!).

I will share another update once the date has been set for our appearance in court in Toronto at Osgoode Hall.

Please continue to share my Go Fund Me page, as my expenses continue to grow, and I am still required to defend myself in their gag proceeding against me.

Thank you again, and stay tuned for an update on my court date.
