The reason I have started this go fund me page is to help my friends Troy and Anna Pascoe and their two children Eva and Tyler.
In 2017 the Pascoe family sold their home at Hyland Park to build their dream home on a 3 acre block at Wirrimbi. The block took the family 2 years to purchase due to tragic circumstances with the owner and family members. All local people who have had their share of tragedy.
The Pascoe’s signed up with Integrity New Homes Coffs Coast (later became Santech Pty Ltd all with changing directors several times) to build their dream home in June 2017. The builders were Michael Worthing and Geoff Saunders. The price was high but Troy a local school teacher and Anna a local nurse were building their forever home a place where their kids could grow up with a dog and vegie patch.
The construction was full of issues, the builders hardly showed up, did not pay any of the trades and were starting to use trades from out of area because everyone around here knew about them. The work quality was dropping. In late 2018 the Pascoe family started to suspect the company would go under and did not want to make the next instalment payment of $100,000. After having Fair Trading on site who issued the builders with a 9 week completion timeframe they were told to honour the contract and pay the $100,000 to the builders. They paid the next day……. The builders never returned to site. They broke the DFT infringement notice, no penalty was issued just a report. The next step for Troy and Anna was NCAT. Before getting to NCAT, the builders decided to go for a nice holiday to Europe for 5 weeks upon returning they went into voluntary administration.
NCAT was cancelled and the administrators took over. The company owes $2.5 Million Dollars to trades and customers on the Coffs Coast. But the company has no assets just debt. Looks like no one gets their money back. Because it’s a company the builders walk away no issues, still have their own homes, fancy cars, holidays and happy families. Free to start up again which they have.
So the Pascoe’s now have to claim home warranty insurance, which they have been told from the start “Don’t worry insurance covers you” from DFT, builders and many more people. The problem is in NSW home warranty only covers $340,000 maximum. So if you build a 10 million dollar home and it goes south, insurance will give you $340,000, but here is the kicker the premium you pay is calculated on the cost of the build. The bigger the home cost the larger the insurance cost but still a max of $340,000.
The Pascoe’s have already paid the builder $540,000, with all the poor work and unfinished work they are looking at a further $400,000+ to finish and repair their dream home (builders quotes). The home was meant to cost a grand total of $611,000. They are already paying $560 a week in interest for the construction loan, whilst nothing happens.
More bad luck to come:
Just as they thought the 4 month insurance turn around was coming to an end (it’s taken 10 weeks to get some people to quote it) and they may start to get a result, a freak storm runs through Wirrimbi on the 19th of March. Ripping the eaves off the home and flooding the ceiling. Windows are smashed and doors are blown in, more damage and cost. The same storm also completely destroys their shed and much of their belongings inside it. They tried to insure the shed but no one would touch it because it’s on a construction site and therefore cannot be insured.
So this local family who educate our kids and treat us in hospital have had their home, their shed and their belongings taken from them with no repercussions to the builders and no help from the people who have things supposedly set in place to help you like the DFT.
