Help John Connect with Success

Donation protected
John is a sweet and joyful 10 year old boy who lives in Johnsonville, New York. He has an incredibly kind, empathetic, and loving heart with a passion for making people laugh, especially when he can tell they are upset. This amazing little boy is an avid fisherman who spends most of his time outdoors and knows he is his mother’s little hero. Although John’s glass is always half-full, he has been dealing with severe and damaging struggles his whole life. Before he was even two years old, John was diagnosed with PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder -- Not Otherwise Specified), a subtype of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and also exhibits characteristics of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Some of his daily struggles that interfere with his life and development include:

• Avoidance of eye contact
• Difficultly maintaining attention for more than one minute
• Extreme sensitivity to sounds, tastes, smells, and touch
• Deficient reading comprehension & math problem solving skills
• Inability to work independently
• Lack of organizational skills
• Excessive trouble following multi-step directions

His mother, Tracy, discovered Brain Balance while searching for a program that would help diminish John’s attention issues as well as help him succeed academically and behaviorally. As a child protective worker of New York State, Tracy strives to make sure that all children have the appropriate environment, resources, and care to achieve their full potential. But now she is focusing her energies into making sure that her own child can and will succeed, and she knows Brain Balance is the tool to help her do so. After going through the assessment, it was determined that John is a perfect candidate for Brain Balance since he has major impairments in his visual and auditory processing abilities in addition to low functioning fine motor and gross motor skills. On a sensory-motor level, his brain is functioning at a 5 year old level; academically, his brain is at an 8 1/2 age level.

The program he would attend through the Brain Balance Achievement Center of West Springfield uses a drug-free, neurological approach to permanently correct the underlying problem that causes his struggles; John would undergo a repetitive, holistic, intensive program that stimulates the weak areas of his brain to create more neural connections. This will allow him to think, process, and utilize information in a quicker and more efficient manner, gain significant control over his fine and gross motor skills, and improve his engagement in social dynamics - drastically improving his quality of life.

On average, one three-month round of Brain Balance results in a two year gain of functional ability in a child. Additional to the sessions that are specifically designed for each individual student, the program also includes a comprehensive nutritional program and a home component of specific exercises. With your donations, you could help John enter into a program that has been changing the lives of hundreds of children and families stretching all over North Western New England.
