My name is Cathy O’Neal
I am a widow of six years. It hasn’t been easy trying to make it on my own. I am currently living in a motel with three of my children, two of them carry the diagnosis of neurofibromatosis, a form of cancer that develops at the nerve endings, I also carry the same diagnosis. They both have had surgery on their spines to remove tumors that was causing them discomfort. My son has had three procedures to remove the same tumor which keeps coming back and my daughter has had one procedure to remove hers. However, they both have recently had the tumors come back. They both are currently in treatment for their condition. It is costing $550 per week which is about $2200 a month. I receive help from my one daughter who is staying with family, with her three young children and the one daughter who lives with me, she is a full-time college student who also works to help to pay for the room. I am working a part time job to help make ends meet. I also have my youngest son who just started college I am also a three-year survivor of breast cancer. I am in need of help, to cover the motel expenses and for a security deposit, first month rent, and realtors fee, for when I do find a place for me and my family to live. We need at least 3-5-bedroom rental to accommodate us all. I lost my husband in March of 2011, things just seemed to spiral out of control. My eldest son, had to have an emergency surgery on his upper spine in November of 2011, two days before his 15th birthday, which left him a paraplegic. The doctors predicted that he would never walk again. By God’s grace and mercy, he could walk with his graduating class in 2015. In February of 2012 my daughter had to have surgery on her upper spine. Her recovery did not take as long as her brothers did. In May 2014, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, after a year of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation, I am now cancer free. I was on section 8 but they terminated my voucher because by their standards it took me to long to find a place to live. I'm extremely frustrated and upset with the inability to secure and find housing through the section 8 system. Last year in April 2016 my family and I were forced to vacate our home in Bogota because the landlord did not want to remain as a section 8 provider. As a result, I was forced to move and relocate to our present residence, a local motel. The case worker assigned has not offered any assistance to me. I have presented numerous houses for consideration of approval to move my family to. I am always told it's not suitable or the inspection report demonstrated a problem. Finally, my last hurdle I'm told I no longer can remain on Section 8 because it took me too long to find housing. Your help is not limited to financial help your support in spreading this message is needed as well. I pray God who is my strength through all of this, to reward you for taking the time to read this message, and I ask Him to bless every effort you might make to help me and my family, to make this good deed a success for us.
