Hello all, My name is Russell E. Bertlow . Some of you may know me on Facebook as Pops Russ Bertlow . I am a Member of Bloom In The Desert Ministries  and have recently started working with the National Organization Pets of the Homeless. I live in Palm Springs California. I am trying to establish a Food Bank for pet of Humans living on the streets, in their cars or below poverty leave. Ii shouldn't ever come down to feeding the dog over themselves their should be food for both. While we have food banks for the Humans he in palm Springs we do not have a Food Bank for their pets in Palm Springs. We have a drop off location that donations can be made in Palm Springs but that all goes to another location east of Palm Springs witch is near impossible for the street population to get to with their pet. I and Bloom In The Desert Ministries have been trying to fill that void with donations from our church members which I them supplement out of my own pocket so we make sure people with pets that come down to the Baptist church where I and other members of our congregation and other individuals serve lunch to this population of Mondays and Tuesdays. The kits we hand out are called Buddy Bags (for the dogs, named after my late dog Buddy whom I lost this past summer.) and Lucy bags for the cats, (Named after a friends cat Lucy who passed away earlier this year.) The kits include Dry food, Wet Food and some treat. There are three other day's Lunch serving program happens in another location that I do not participate in. There are people with dogs or who have cats there as well and there is nothing for their pest at these locations. There are also many people who have pets that don't show up for lunch. My spouse and I see them on the Back street and streets behind downtown and elsewhere when we take of dogs out on the Golf Cart.

When I started this program through Bloom In the Desert Ministries we were giving out 10 dog bags  a week it quickly rose to 15 a week  and then we started doing the senior bags and cat bags. Now we put together 25 Buddy Bags  3-6 Senior  Buddy Bags and 3-6 Lucy bags. It has grown but we are still reaching a very small portion of the population that live on the Margins with pets. When we keep these pets healthy and feed we keep our own pets healthy. We never know when our pet is going to come into contact with one of these pets because they are part of the very fabric of our community and communities across America.

There is a idea that speaks to me and that is the Idea of Welcoming all who welcome all. There is also this notion that I have been filled with that, God is still speaking. In my Church, UCC it is represented by the Comma which represents a pause before the next words. Which means God has more to say to us and that God is not done speaking to us. Working towards providing help for those pets with humans who live on the margins is my ministry and passion and the way in which God still speaks to me.

Here are some of the Dogs that would Benefit from a food bank for pets in Palm Springs and by having a regular vet clinic.

Splash  whose owner was a victim of Human Trafficking brought to America at a young age then put on the street and ultimately left on the street she was given Splash from another Homeless person who could no longer care for Splash. We managed to get Splash an Emergency Vet appointment only to discover that Splash has a hole in his heart and needs a special diet and regular vet visits.

Chance  Doesn't know his medical History neither does his Human companion who has face a lot of diversity, He has one eye and what look like the scaring of melanoma. But Chances Human Don is pure sunshine.

Snowball  is a little white Chihuahua puppy and her human companions love her very much and are grateful for the little food we do give them now.

Charlemagne , Love to ride on her owners bedroll and is always unfazed by any dogs that came with there human companions. Charlemagne is new to lunch's and her human companion Colorado, is grateful for the food we supply him with for her on Monday's and Tuesday's.

There are other dogs. Dogs whose humans come in and get food for them and dogs whose humans haven't found us yet.

My Friend Tom  who comes for lunch sometimes is a Vietnam Veteran a Marine who lives on the mountain side in a shack he built himself. He had a dog that Dog died from a Parvo infection because tom didn't have the means to get the vaccine. He had a second dog die from the same thing for the same reason. Tom now has Zela and has had her for a few years. She came to him from two various abusive situations. Tom Loves Zela and Zela loves Tom and is his life. Zela has flourished under Toms care. Alsa Tom doesn't know what shots Zela has had or hasn't had.

These are just some of the people and pets I feel I cam called to help. It is a daunting task but I am up to it. I hope you will support me in this cause and help me raise the needed fund to start this food bank and get vet services generated for this pet population.

Thank you and Blessings to you with Blessings to share.

Remember sharing blessings is like watering a plants it is the food that makes them grow.

Note: Originally this crowdfunding page was on You Care. You Care is owned by Go Fund Me and Go Fund Me has chosen to close down the You Care funding site. All moneys we sent to the account on file for their customer. For me that means the moneys collected sits in an account that has been specifically designated for this fund raising effort. The funds  will remain until we are ready to start the purposed projects.
