This Orphanage receives no funding from the Government. This specific orphanage takes in Haitian children and Dominican children, many orphanages only take in children of Dominican background. Casa Nina Felices shelters, feed and clothe 28 abandoned and abused children. I have been involved with Casa Nina orphanage for the past 31 months. I live in the Dominican Republic full time and assist the orphanage with maintenance on the building, food, clothes, pampers, pizza parties, field trips and everything under the sun. My dream is to give them sustainable ongoing assistance for the future. However, over the past 31 months I see the strong need to educate This Orphanage receives no funding from the Government. My dream is to give them sustainable ongoing assistance for the future. However, over the past 31 months I see the strong need to educate these children. I see to give these children a fighting chance we can not just feed their bodies without feeding their minds. Too often Dominican children turn to the streets to hustle and survive. It is normal (in some cities) to see children at 1 or 2 am in the morning hustling on the street. This is only a recipe that leads to poverty, children getting pregnant as early as 12 years old and all the other horrible outcomes that one can imagine. My goal is to build an afterschool education center. The center will also carry the program through the summer months as well. The center will focus on 3 goals, the first is teaching the children English, why because no matter what path they choose as a young adult they will earn more money. Learning English is the equivalent of that child having a degree. The second goal is computer skills that will help the children create their own opportunities, i.e. coding, web design, IT etc... The third goal is teaching them life skills, with a strong emphasis on finances (saving, investing, money strategies, balancing a bank account). The education center objective is to not just nourish the body but feed the mind.
