Her mommy instinct got him in for a scan which showed an enlarged spleen and liver. He was initially diagnosed with a choledochal cyst on his bile duct. He went in for surgery on Monday, the 15th, which lasted over 4 hours. After which, he showed signed of improvement, followed by distress, which brought him in for his second surgery yesterday, the 17th.
He has two very rare congenital conditions (choledochal cyst and congenital hepatic fibrosis) that make this recovery process very unique and unknown.
He is currently under sedation and on a ventilator. The expected hospital visit is looking like a few weeks.
This all has happened suddenly for the Hill family, and as anyone can imagine, the medical bills in addition to missing work and being over an hour from home are a challenge, and a stress the family shouldn't even have to think about in this very trying time. We are asking for any donations to help ease this stress.
This page will continue to be updated as we find out more about Carters' progress and diagnosis.
Carter continues to get stronger each day. All tubes and wires have been pulled other than his PICC line that is still providing small amounts of nutrition until his appetite returns. The current plan is to possibly go home tomorrow! Thank you again for the support and prayers ❤❤❤
They have finally given them a diagnosis of congenital hepatic fibrosis. It's so rare that the doctors are relying on small group and single case studies to provide the family with information. For example, one study found that 20% of children require a liver transplant within 14 years of diagnosis. Their GI doc has seen less than 5 cases in 25 years. Please continue to keep sweet Carter and his family in your thoughts and prayers!
I can say i do understand how bad it is to hear bad news about your child and have no way to make it better but being a good mom and staying beside him and loving him. Hit your knees and pray hard. Prayer does work. That is what got me through the 18 1/2 month battle with my son. Ill be praying for family and your sweet son. May gods blessings come your way.
