Carli’s Lyme Disease

Carli is a 24 year old wife, dog Mum and photographer who loves travelling, camping and 4wd with her husband Andrew. You may look at Carli and assume she is a healthy 25 year old. On the outside there is a strong, courageous women who tries to get through each day without anyone seeing her struggle. Although on the inside there is pain, nausea, fatigue, exhaustion, headaches and so much more.
This is what Chronic Lyme disease looks like.

Although Carli has struggled with these symptoms for years it was only late last year that she was given a diagnosis by her GP after her naturopath had requested her to be tested. Doctors had being misdiagnosing her for years with no answers as to why she was feeling the way she was. You can only imagine the mental fatigue and stress this caused on herself and Andrew. Carli also found out the Lyme caused co infections like Rickettsia and Bartonella and contributed to a range of health issues including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Hyperthyroidism, Epstein-Barr and Cytomegalovirus, systemic candidiasis, and adrenal and hormonal deficiencies.

For those of you who have not heard of Lyme disease, it is a disease generally carried by ticks where they inject a substance called borellia. When it is in its early stages it is usually treated by a course of antibiotics but because Lyme disease is still not recognised here in Australia it is very rare for someone to get a diagnoses before the disease has already progressed.

When Carli was first diagnosed she underwent a course of antibiotics where she initially had a good response and somewhat felt an improvement in her health. Although she eventually had a flare up which has since set her back again leaving her mostly housebound. Long term antibiotic use can wreak havoc on our bodies and immune system as well as creating antibiotic resistant bugs.

Desperate for an answer Carli and Andrew started looking into different options and found a clinic overseas which offers promising results with Lyme disease. If you are interested you can see the therapies offered here.

Whilst this new development in Carli's journey is promising and quite exciting it is quite a burden financially to carry. Andrew does work full time and Carli does carry out photoshoots when she is feeling up for it but it is quite hard for her to commit to anything as her health is currently so up and down. Whilst there is still the everyday living costs such as bills and groceries, they also have medical bills such as lab testing, appointments, supplements, medications and treatment. Again as Lyme is not recognised here in Australia there is no government assistance so everything is out of pocket.

Our goal is to raise enough money to help Carli and Andrew travel overseas to treatment by December 2018. If you feel it in your heart to donate please do, regardless of how large or small it may be every little bit helps.

Extremely grateful for all your donations.
