Caring Cradle in Memory of Ryan

As many of you knew Joe and I were expecting a baby boy who was due this past June. However, on January 30th during a routine visit, it was discovered I had started to dilate. After 48 hours of hospital & specialist visits, it was determined I was not eligible for a procedure to close up my cervix. On February 3rd I went into labor and delivered our sweet baby Ryan Joseph at 8:59pm. Since I was only 21 weeks along in the pregnancy, he was too young to survive and was born still.
Through our grieving process we came across a product called Caring Cradle (https://caringcradle.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Brochure.pdf). It is a unit that allows a dignified means for parents to spend more time with a baby who has passed and gives an appropriate atmosphere to say goodbye.
Stony Brook University Hospital did an amazing job with offering to bring Ryan into the room from the morgue at any time we wanted. But it was difficult -and quite frankly traumatic- to "give him back" each time and be separated due to temperature constraints with a deceased body. If this device was available, it would have enabled Ryan to remain in the room with us and maximize our short time to bond. We do not want another bereaved family to miss out on the extremely short and precious time they have.
We are raising money to donate a Caring Cradle in Ryan's name to Stony Brook University Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity as it would be the first unit of its kind available at any hospital on Long Island and we have already been granted approval for it to be placed. Both of our son's were born at SBUH and we can't think of a better way to give back and help other families that have to endure this nightmare.
There is **NO PRESSURE** to donate as we are happy being able to share our story and hopefully decrease some of the stigma associated with stillborn/infant loss.
