New Housing for C.A.R.E. Cats & Dogs
Our Sanctuary is "home sweet home" to more than 300 rescued cats and dogs at any one time, of varying ages, health status and adoptability - until their forever homes are found or life. C.A.R.E. provides lifetime medical treatment for our residents who have chronic but manageable illnesses whether they are ferals, or "behaviorally challenged" or elderly. After 21 years of C.A.R.E.'s existence and saving thousands of cats and dogs, you would think that there would be less need for a place like C.A.R.E. Unfortunately it seems that the situation with homeless pets is only getting worse!
C.A.R.E. desperately needs funds, so we can keep the pledge we made so many years ago to the "innocents without voices". We want to build two large buildings equipped with swamp-coolers and heaters with an indoor and outdoor space for each of our rescued dogs. We have quite a few older dogs and we want them to be cozy, especially in the cold winter days. We are located in the High Desert and temperatures reach over 100 in the summer and below freezing in the winter. The cats are housed in a 3 room house that was built in the 1950's and is in desperate need of upgrades and expansion. Please help us make the lives of our rescued dogs and cats more comfortable ones; no amount is too small, everything helps.
We've come a long way since 1992, but we still have such a long way to go. Our survival and future depends on your friendship and generosity and together we can help thousands more homeless cats and dogs.
We never thought a pipeline in a patch of dirt could look so beautiful! The photo may not look like much, but to us, it’s a thrilling sight. It marks the beginning of the actual construction of our new facility. Many CARE supporters know about the multitude of permits, approvals and government agencies that have had a hand in our plans for a new shelter. The endless series of revisions and delays stalled our dream of a new home for our dogs and cats for a very long time.
Until now, our vision has been on paper only. This is why we are overjoyed to see the actual construction begin—and why the pipe in the dirt looks so wonderful to our eyes. Once the water and sewage lines are laid, the next phase will be compacting the earth where the foundations for the new buildings are going to be built, to comply with soil density standards. We know we will be just as thrilled when we see the heavy equipment rolling thru our property. CARE’s new housing is finally becoming a reality.
Thanks to all of you for helping to make this dream come true, you are part of this dream as much as we are. We cannot do it without your support and generosity. Your generosity has made a difference in the lives of so many homeless cats and dogs, and your continued support will allow us to carry on our mission of saving innocent lives!!! Remember that every donation makes a difference, regardless of size; no amount is too small.
As you all know, for the last 3 years we have being waiting for all the permits to be issued so we could be able to start the construction of the new cats and dogs housings. It has been a rollercoaster. It seems that every time we took a step forward, we would take two steps backwards--excited and hopeful one minute, disappointed and heartbroken the next. Working with the County of Los Angeles Building and Safety Department is complex and daunting. Then we include the fire department, architects, engineers, contractors and many others—they all have to agree with each other. Despite the frustrations and setbacks, we are determined to succeed, all for the benefit of the dogs and cats at C.A.R.E.
We are now getting close to our goal. The Fire Department permits have been issued and the new fire hydrant and water meter have been installed. Also the new perimeter fencing of vacant land is has been put up. We are hoping to start the excavation in a few weeks; we have to excavate down 8-9 feet and then compress the dirt to be able to pour the cement for the slabs of the buildings. We are so excited to finally see the beginning of the buildings going up, and to see our dreams starting to come true. Our dreams and yours--after all you are as much part of this dream as we are. Together we are making this a reality and a better place for the 300+ cats and dogs that call C.A.R.E. home sweet home, and for the thousands that we will be helping in the years to come.
But nothing can be accomplished without YOU and YOUR generosity. C.A.R.E is so grateful for your friendship and support and we hope you support us now. We are almost there. Please HELP us get there. No amount is too small. Every donation makes a difference, and together we can achieve our dream of a spacious new home for our dogs and cats. You can be proud of what you are helping to create for present and future generations of needy animals-- the ones without a voice, the ones without a choice. We are their voice and their hope for survival; they are counting on our help and kindness.
Well, here we are ready to break ground; we thought we’d never get there. It took 2 years for all the permits to be issued! It was like swimming through quicksand, what with all the bureaucratic rigmarole and red tape. We were so close so many times we could taste it but, finally, the green light is up ahead! Now our dream is coming true - we can see a better future for C.A.R.E., for all our rescued pets who call our sanctuary “HOME SWEET HOME”, and for the many more we can rescue in days to come!
In order for us to help those who cannot help themselves, it takes numerous, selfless people who are willing to reach out to the less fortunate, the ones at risk, the ones who cannot survive without our HELP. C.A.R.E. needs you NOW to be able to create a better and more comfortable future for our residents. We desperately need funds, so we can keep the pledge we made so many years ago to the "innocents without voices". The two large buildings are finally being built but now we need much more help to equip them with swamp-coolers and heaters, interior construction and indoor and outdoor spaces for our rescued cats and dogs – drywall, windows, doors, flooring, lumber, cabinetry, chain link, the list goes on and on. Please help us make the lives of our rescued dogs and cats more comfortable ones; no amount is too small, everything helps. Materials are welcome, too! This can ONLY be accomplished with your HELP and GENEROSITY; we cannot do it WITHOUT YOU!
