Hello Everyone! Let's make 2018 another success! Last year, with everyone's generosity, we raised enough money to fund 20 care packages to deliver to mommies celebrating the 2017 holiday season in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) with their premature and medically fragile babies.  This year, let's see if we can make it happen again and deliver a little bit of joy to the new mommies in this vulnerable and heartbreaking time in their lives.

This Year:
What's Included? Care packages will include a copy of the preemie milestone book, "The Littlest Peanut", a pen (to document any milestones their babies achieve during their stay), and care items such as a "NICU Mom" water tumbler (to stay hydrated); hand sanitizer (which is instrumental in guarding their little ones against dangerous germs which can be life-threatening); hand lotion (to counteract dryness from the many times the mommies sanitize and wash their hands every time they enter the NICU room);  lip balm (as lips do get dry from all the hours spent in the dry hospital air); tissues (for emotional times); snacks (so mommies can limit their time away from their little ones while refueling their energy); and gift bags to place these items into.

Backstory - For those of you who do not know me, my name is Cindy Madej. I delivered my precious baby boy on August 14th, 2017. He came very early at 31 weeks gestation (9 weeks shy of his due date). He spent 4 weeks and 3 days in the NICU, and I was there each and every single day beside him. Being a new mother of a preemie, nothing could have prepared me for what I would endure in the coming month. The first time I saw my Matty after delivering him was through a plexiglass case, under blue lights. Matty had his eyes covered with eye patches and his tiny 3lb 12 oz body looked so frail amidst the plethora of tubes and needles poking and hanging from every direction. The only solace I had the first week of his life was being able to stick one of my hands through the hole on the side of the incubator so that I may gently nudge my finger under his little hand to feel him. Never in my life had I imagined that this was how I would spend the first moments of my baby's life. The feeling I had being in the NICU was a mixture of fear, anxiety, and an almost drowning sense of loneliness. Thankfully, Matty is now a healthy, happy, and incredibly funny little toddler whom I run back home to everyday in order to squeeze in as many hugs and kisses as I can.

Please join me this year in providing a little bit of comfort to these new NICU mommies so that they know they are not alone, and that people are out there thinking about them and supporting them through this difficult and trying time!
