Local Slam Team Goes Cross Country!

It’s that time of year again! Albany's own CapCity Slam (formerly Nitty Gritty Slam) is gearing up to send five incredibly talented poets around the country! And for the SECOND TIME IN ALBANY HISTORY, we are an all womxn team!
This year we're heading to the Southern Fried Poetry Slam in Fayetteville NC, as well as several regional slams around the northeast. We need funds to get ourselves there, registered, fed, and housed. As your representatives for poetry in the Capital Region, we aim to bring our most refined and radical rebelutionary performances to the national scale time and time again. At national events we network, we learn, we grow, we shine. We return with even more tools to enrich our community and amplify poetry as a tool of justice and social change.
Please consider donating to help us on our journey. Our budget:
- $3-400 travel expenses
- $100/night housing for 5 nights
- food!
CapCity Slam is the official poetry slam team of Albany, NY, certified by Poetry Slam, Inc., and takes place the 1st Wednesday of the month at Albany Barn. Signups at 6:30, open mic at 7, competitive slam to follow. Sliding scale entry, none turned away for lack of fund$!
CapCity (formerly Nitty Gritty) has been running since 2011 and has sent teams to the National Poetry Slam, the Individual World Poetry Slam, and the Women of the World Poetry Slam. Last year our first ever all-femme cohort made Team Piece Finals and were ranked 24th in the nation! We've also represented Albany by winning regional slams in Amherst, Lenox, Pittsfield, Toronto, Buffalo, Nyack, and Troy. Donate and help us continue our winning streak!
