Cannabis Information and Support

$675 of $9,000 goal

Raised by 8 people in 19 months
In December 2016 National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre (NCPIC) was defunded by the Turnbull Coalition Government.  This was at the same time that medicinal cannabis was legalised in Australia; leaving no source of independent, evidence-based information about harms (as well as benefits), along with proven intervention resources for the Australian and international communities of interest.

All government attention is belatedly focussed on crystal methamphetamine and the far more widely used drug cannabis is ignored despite international patterns of increasing levels of use (particularly where medicinal use is legalised). The riskier pattern of daily use is also becoming far more common.  I have chosen to take on this website as a voluntary project to maintain the resources to the community.

I greatly appreciate UNSW agreeing to provide me with a license to use the resources my colleagues and I developed over the past 25 years of research in the field of brief interventions; especially the nine years of NCPIC, to once again make many of them available to you.

The opinions expressed at www.cannabissupport.com.au are purely my own.  I have no funding so if you would like to see this website maintained and the smartphone app Joint Effort, an evidence-based intervention to quit/reduce cannabis use, available again please support me in the hosting and related costs.

I am pleased to advise that through the generosity of Anna Josephson I am able to reduce the goal amount to $9,000 as she has privately donated half of the hosting costs of the https://cannabissupport.com.au/ website and making the App Joint Effort available free of charge on iTunes and Google Play - what a great Australian to step up when our Government walks away

Not sure why those not interested in assisting those with cannabis related problem are continuing to hate bomb me but go for if it as it highlights your complete denial of any science or nuanced conversation

I do apologise for my intemperate terminology earlier, but it's damn difficult to say neutral things to someone who thinks that 4 million Australians are somehow 'sick in the head' and need counselling, or worse. And none of those 4 million will ever die from using reefer (not even the "I was a cannabis addict" bloke you had talking in Melbourne last year) ... why not make it your life's work to ban alcohol? The figures show it kills 20,000 a year, surely a more worth cause (but just as futile ... remember Prohibition in the 20s USA? All it did was increase alcohol use, crime, gangsterism and astonishing profits for those who didn't mind getting their hands dirty and killing anyone who got in their way.

Sorry Jan, but you're a sick piece of work. It's not an 'opinion' when you're backed by The Law. "Ozzie Rules is better than Rugby" is an opinion. No harm, no foul, and we can all have a beer (I'm sure you don't mind a glass or two of 'bubbly', no harm - it only kills 20,000 Ozzies a year after all) and laugh about it afterwards. But "I believe cannabis is harmful" is The Law, and you're simply saying "and if they don't stop voluntarily, they belong in jail" But please, take another sedative (kills 3 Ozzies a day) and it will all be better in the morning.

AVOID THIS FUND -From the 1st line when it says Medical Cannabis was legalised in 2016, typifies the problem perfectly with the NCPIC "fuzzy facts". They were largely defunded as all that was legal in 2016 and today is pharma and not Cannabis with THC. When the "annals" of Cannabis Law Reform are written about Australia, Jan Copeland and the NCPIC will be deeply embedded in those annals. Jan's "remarkable" discovery with glee that a $1m trial of pharma cannabis cured those with "Cannabis addiction" by giving them the "methadone" for Cannabis addiction (more Cannabis) was an amazing discovery and launched her book deal on the same subject (an addiction that doesn’t exist) Her further suggestion that addicts could just smoke less to reduce their addiction (on national TV) was perhaps of more amazement http://bit.ly/ncpic-addiction. Another classic of the NCPIC and Jan, was the NCPIC misinformation that Cannabis usage alters DNA, causing mutations for future generations, was widely reported by the NCPIC and globally as fact by the paid for research at the University of Western Australia, but not corrected by Jan, when debunked as a lie by former, senior, Australian consultant on medical cannabis pharma MD Ethan Russo then of GW Pharma UK. All that aside as just SOME examples, the biggest issue and legacy with Jan and the NCPIC, (just doing their job) is how this misinformation and paid for research still gets copied and pasted as fact in laws and bills in Australia by those not looking at the details, facts, or truth. Leave the NCPIC where it should be, dead and buried.

The only way this campaign gets to $25,000 is if people, like me, pay $5 to leave comments that point out how USELESS the N.C.P.I.C was in the past when it was funded and how USELESS it will be in the future. If you, like me, think USELESS might not be quite an "adequate enough" word to describe pointlessness of funding the N.C.P.I.C Zombie, futile, purposeless, impractical, in vain, to no purpose, to no avail, unavailing, hopeless, unusable, ineffectual, inefficacious, impotent, unproductive and/or unachievable can also used to describe the N.C.P.I.C Zombie.. www.BigJoint.org

I’ve just donated $5 Jan and you are welcome to it. I wanted to make it just $1 but $5 is the minimum donation that Gofundme will accept. I made the donation because you keep on deleting the many messages that have been posted by people, including myself, who disagree with you so there’s no need to thank me for my generosity. The elephant in the room for those of us who have experienced the benefits of cannabis for the past 40 years is that we know that the whole debate is nonsense. It's a plant. Five thousand years of use illustrates it's benefits. Be healthy and free. In the meantime, when it comes to Cannabis legalisation, each of the primary arguments in favor of preventing legalisation is fundamentally wrong. See for yourself: Critics: Cannabis Is an Addictive Substance The Truth: Cannabis is less addictive than its legal counterparts. Critics: Cannabis Has No Medical Value The Truth: Cannabis has more medical value than we could have ever imagined. Critics: It is a Gateway Drug That Leads to Harder Drugs The Truth: Cannabis users are in no way more likely to use harder drugs. Critics: Cannabis Is a Harmful, Potentially Deadly Substance The Truth: Cannabis is not harmful to health and fatal overdoses are impossible. Critics: Legalisation Will Lead to a Massive Spike in Younger Cannabis Users The Truth: Cannabis legalisation has so far reduced the number of young users. Critics: Shady Criminals Will Set Up Syndicates and Rackets The Truth: Cannabis legalisation doesn’t mean there won’t be controls enforced. Critics: Cannabis Cause Far Too Many Accidents and Injuries on the Roads The Truth: One word …ALCOHOL! A substance that is the direct cause of tens of thousands of needless fatalities on the roads each and every year and yet remains 100% legal. Stoned driving is a bad idea but so too is drunk driving and millions do it every day. So if you’re going to throw the book at a substance for such a bonkers claim, why not throw it at the real killer? Now Jan, what harm would come to the community if those who find cannabis beneficial were to grow a plant or two in order to source the medicine most appropriate to their needs?
