Canio Zarrillo and his Fearless Fight!

Canio Nicholas Zarrillo was born on January 19, 2019 at 10:40 pm at Healthpark Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. At 6 weeks early he weighed 6 lbs. 1 oz, and was directly admitted to the NICU at Golisano’s Children’s Hospital. Canio spent over 8 weeks in the hospital, before coming home with only a feeding tube for 28 days.

On April 14, he stopped breathing and was rushed back to the hospital. After a week he was air flighted via helicopter to other coast for further testing.

Since April 24, Canio has been in the NICU at Joe DiMaggio Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Kat (his mom) is with him in Hollywood, and has not left his bedside while Nick is taking care of their daughter while working.

Doctors are working hard to fully understand Canio’s medical needs and future plans for him. They’re currently awaiting insurance approval for a hospital transfer closer to home. Prayers are needed to guide doctor’s hands and decisions, but the Zarillo family is in need of assistance too. Health insurance will cover some of the costs from delivery, the hospital stays, testing, and transfers but their expenses are enormous.

Kathryn is a teacher in Cape Coral, and has been out of work since January. Nick is a police officer for the Cape Coral Police Department, and has been working overtime protecting the community on night shift while also teaching at the Southwest Florida Law Enforcement Academy and taking caring of their daughter Liliana with help from their families.

If you know Kat and Nick, they would never ask for help. This beautiful family has dedicated their lives to serving others, and now its our turn to serve them and support them.

If you wish to make a donation directly, you can write a check to CCPD FOP Police Officer's Memorial Fund (with Zarrillo in the memo line) and drop off at the Cape Coral Police Department during normal office hours.  Please label them ATTN Det. Tracy Coons or Sgt Paul Blanchard !

Thank you everyone so much for your generous donations, for sharing this page, and for all of your love, thoughts and prayers! It means the world to Kat, Nick, and their entire family!

I made a Facebook Page/Group named "Canio Zarrillo the Fearless Fighter" (@CanioZarrillo) to make it easier for Kat and Nick to update on Canio, and for friends, family, and followers to comment and send their love and thoughts! They read every comment and prayer from everyone!!

On Tuesday (may 14) they received answers that Canio needs to see a specialist for imaging/surgery at the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. They are currently awaiting information from their insurance company on their transfer. Medi-flight from Florida to Philadelphia is extremely expensive!

If you're local and want to help more, the Cape Coral Police Department FOP has offered proceeds from the "Cape Cops 5k" event on May 18th at the Yacht Club and the "Fallen Officer Memorial Fund" to the Zarrillo Family!
