Ever since Sarah was a toddler, she has been suffering from an un-treatable rare form of cancer. Many long days, months, and years have passed since her initial diagnosis but her illness is still going strong. Aside from her inoperable tumor, Sarah has many side effects that affect her daily life. There are constant needles, pokes, x-rays, iv's, hospital stays, dozens of medications, seizures, oxygen, wheelchairs, broken bones and broken hearts. The hospital has become her new home, and the nurses her family.
Sarah cries a lot, and as a close friend, I can't help but cry with her! There has been many times when it seemed like the end and the doctors gave up hope, but she held on and kept fighting. There has been many sleepless nights and fervent prayers on her behalf.
This has been the first time in many years that she's been back in school, spending more time at home, and being with friends. Not knowing when and what her next setback will be, I, as a friend, am trying to make Sarah's life as enjoyable as possible. Due to her precarious situation, she requires a nurse to be with her and assist her with her medical needs on a daily basis.
Recently, Sarah has been asking me to take her to Orlando. She wants to feel like a regular kid just having a good time. I promised I would try to raise the necessary funds to cover the cost of the trip. Any contributions will mean the world to me so I can give her the time of her life and give her family a much needed break.
Not knowing when the next crisis will be, I plan on taking her as soon as we have enough money.
