Canadian Cultural Centre in Greece

$300,000 goal

Campaign created 6 months ago
The Canadian Institute in Greece (CIG-ICG) has taken a bold new step forward in transforming our growing Institute. As of April 2017, we are proud owners of a magnificent new building in the heart of Athens. This marvelous venture is in part a celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, but it is first and foremost a great leap into the future as the Canadian Institute in Greece begins a fifth decade of research and education in Hellenic studies.

The new building has a large open rooftop of 150 m2 and holds 450 m2 of space over three floors the second of which it is our goal to recraft into the state-of-the-art “Canadian Cultural Centre in Greece,” capable of hosting a variety of lectures, presentations, conferences, musical recitals, educational programs, seminars, meetings, workshops and art exhibitions. For Canadian researchers, artists, teachers, students, and institutions this new centre will be the ideal setting to promote their own work in the fields of Hellenic or Canadian Heritage and Culture.

The Institute has started this GoFundMe page specifically to raise money for the restoration, renovation, and outfitting of the Canadian Cultural Centre with a fundraising goal of $300,000 CAD.

A large plaque will be placed on the Donors’ Wall in the Main Foyer of the Institute’s new building to recognize all gifts of $100 and more, under the following designations:

Golden Benefactors ($25,000)
Life Benefactors ($10,000)
Benefactors ($1,000)
Patrons ($500)
Friends ($100)

The Canadian Institute in Greece (CIG-ICG) is a privately-funded, not-for-profit organization, incorporated in Canada, which seeks to promote Canadian research and education in fields relating to Greece’s heritage – ancient, Byzantine, and Modern – through its academic programs, through the provision of accommodation and library facilities in Athens, as well as through the provision of fellowships and internships for Canadian Students. The CIG also supports Canadian cultural activities in Greece. Donors to the Institute are sent receipts that are eligible for deductions under Canadian income tax regulations.
