Canadarago Lake Water Testing!

Tax deductible
Help Us Raise Funds for Canadarago Lake Water Testing!

Do you believe that water quality, harmful algal blooms, and increased growth of acquatic plants are major issues for Canadarago Lake? The Canadarago Lake Improvement Association, Inc. (CLIA) is seeking funds to commit to five years ($500 per year) worth of participation in the Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP) run by the New York State Federation of Lake Associations, Inc. in conjunction with NYSDEC. The $2700 amount will cover the costs of the program as well as the fees associated with gofundme.

The three main objectives of CSLAP are to collect data from the lake, to identify lake problems and changes in water quality, and to educate the public about lake conservation. Volunteers will be training to collect lake data and samples following the approved methods, and will send the data and samples to NYS to help detect changes in water quality over time. This will help CLIA improve its ability to perform water quality management.

The testing performed by the volunteers will cover parameters such as water temperature, water clarity, conductivity, pH, water color, phosphorus, nitrogen, chlorophyll a, and calcium, among other things. Data collected is directly related to such things as harmful algal blooms and invasive plant growth, top issues currently faced by our beautiful watershed.

The health of Canadarago Lake is more important than most people are probably aware of. Not only is the lake a pillar of the local economy, but with the lake being part of the Upper Susquehanna Watershed, it’s health impacts bodies of water all the way down to the Chesapeake Bay. We live, work, and play in and around the headwaters of the Susquehanna River and therefore the issues of the watershed begin with what we do or don’t do.

CLIA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation completely run by volunteers. So not only will 100% of your gift go towards this program, but it will also be tax deductible for you. Give a gift to the lake this holiday season, help support this program by donating now.
