Camp CARD NE has accomplished many wonderful things in the past seven years. Over these years we have grown in size and in number of campers we serve, as well as become a part of the community. We have learned over the years the importance of continuity and consistency. The summers spent at camp offer times for renewal, building self esteem and learning new tools to help our campers grow during the next school year.
A. With the pledges, we will provide a small, instructional environment with trained counselors to teach social skills in a meaningful way. Learning how to have and be a friend is one of the social skills we focus on at camp. We do this in many different ways. At morning meeting, we always have a favorite of the day, which allows others to get to know what someone likes. We talk about the importance of turn taking in conversations, as well as listening to another's point of view. While this seems basic, it is the area that is most likely to interfere with building long lasting relationships- a foundation for happiness. Budget Total: $11,000.00
B. We will provide the opportunity to have real life work experiences for our older campers, a natural transition in life.
At age 16, most kids are working summer jobs, not going to camp. We recognize this need to transition and have created a program to meet this need. Through structure, direct instruction and feedback, we offer the opportunity for campers to receive on the job training. Examples include, working at the hot dog stand, laying flooring with an expert, car maintenance and outdoor painting. Each camper receives a paycheck at the end of the week- just like their typical peers!
Budget Total: $ 9,000.00
C. We will offer a commitment to families that allocates monies for continuity and growth of the camper.
This means we will have a scholarship fund in place that will allow us to award funds earlier, helping families anticipate camp tuition and prepare for it.
Budget Total: $10,000.00
Total needed to fulfill our Plan for Success: $ 30,000.00
