Callie Furlong

January 24, 2019 is a day that changed our lives forever. What begun as any other normal day ended with fear, concern and questions. On Friday January 25, Callie, a bubbly, beautiful, curly haired, blue eyed, bundle of joy, whose laughter is contagious was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor. On Monday the 28th she had her kidney and the 1 pound mass removed and on February 6th she started the long process of chemo.
Wilms tumor (also called Wilms’ tumor or nephroblastoma) is a type of childhood cancer that starts in the kidneys. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in children. About 9 of 10 kidney cancers in children are Wilms tumors.

Callie’s was stage 2 meaning: Cancer is found in the kidney and in the fat, soft tissue, or blood vessels near the kidney. It may have spread to the renal sinus. The renal sinus is the part of the kidney where blood and fluid enter and exit the organ. The tumor can be completely removed with surgery.

There was a concern that the mass may have ruptured and bleeding had occurred, meaning that radiation would be needed as well as the chemo. Fortunately, that was not the case and she does not need the radiation. Depending on her progress, Callie will require between 19-25 weeks of chemotherapy.

Callie enjoys going to day care and playing with her friends. One of her best friends is Lily, who Callie repeatedly asks to watch videos of. Callie is quickly following in her brothers footsteps and loves the word “no”. She’s perfecting the art of fake crying and with her cute face and curly hair, she pouts her way out of anything. She's tough, fast, stubborn, so so brave and LOUD! She eats non-stop and laughs at her own farts. She’s a risk taker who has no fears. She loves jumping on the couch and while holding her moms hands, she falls backwards from the top of the couch onto the cushions. She’s a mommas girl and has a huge heart. Her smile will melt your heart and her hugs make all your pain go away.

Any and all donations will help the Furlong family along this long and painful process. Contributions will go to:

Medical/hospital/treatment bills
Garage parking and gas for the 3 hour round trip drive to the hospital
Lost work wages for being home with Callie during this time while she cannot go to day care

Please help the Furlong family in their courageous fight against cancer. Every little bit will help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
