California Dreamin: From NOCCA To CalArts

Donation protected
Hey! My name is Ori Toure!

I'm a young animator based in New Orleans and it has been my dream to attend CalArts Summer School For The Arts (CSSSA).

Guess what?

I've been given that opportunity and was recently accepted to California State Summer School For The Arts this upcoming July and August, but unfortunately the program does not offer out of state students financial assistance so my village is coming together to help me make it happen.

My first step in demonstrating my commitment to my craft was applying to my local arts high school, NOCCA, for my freshman year. It was there that I had the chance to build on my skill sets, but more importantly be around like minded, creative peers.  I used my freshman year to improve upon my techniques and learn to work collaboratively which inspired me to apply to the school of my dreams, Cal Arts.

This is all very new to me because even though my high school has a very strong media arts department, there are no dedicated courses specifically for animation, which is my passion.  All of what I've learned thus far has been either self taught or through peer feedback, which I find very valuable in helping me grow as an artist. I look forward to being in an environment of fellow animators who are just as passionate about the medium and who are open to the idea of pushing each other to be our best.

I’ve always been interested in creating my own characters and manifesting anything I put my mind to. I love that animation has no limits and anything you can imagine can be made with enough effort.  My long term goals are to write and produce my own TV show that I've been developing with my brother Yusef for years called 'Madness & Insanity'.  We currently share the duties of writing original scripts, character designing, storyboarding, casting, voiceovers, directing and animating.  Some of my earliest animation can be found on my YouTube animation channel,  OriAnimates. Feel free to subscribe to stay up to date with my work and share your thoughts.  Hopefully CSSSA can serve as the bridge for bringing my concepts and ideas to reality.

The total cost for out of state students is $6,500.00 USD (plus art supply fees specific to the animation department + travel). The initial non refundable deposit of $2,500.00 USD is due along with my confirmation of acceptance letter no later than May 15, 2019.  The remaining balance is due no later than June 5, 2019. Doesn't sound like a lot of time right???  You are correct! I'm sweating, but I trust that I wouldn't have been given this opportunity if I wasn't fully capable of handling it.

There are multiple ways to help me, but first is ensuring that this deposit is paid in full and ON TIME.  Any sized contribution ultimately helps my goal, so please don't think that all of your shares have no impact or effect. I'll gladly take all of your wooden nickels, spools of gold, extra cows, and cryptocurrency...

Love You <3
