Calais Convoy: Team York

£985 of £1,000 goal

Raised by 43 people in 26 months
On 18th June, a huge convoy will travel to Calais, with vehicles joining from across Britain, and backed by Unions, Faith and Campaign groups from across Britain. This is an act of political as well as practical solidarity with those stuck in the Calais camps.

The Calais Camp Still Stands! - the French and UK governments have played the media in their attempt to show that the camp is closed and demolished. Yet without media attention, the situation is more desperate than ever for those trapped there. A recent fire destroyed many shelters.

Team York:
focusing on people and money. We want to give a huge financial donation to the groups working in Calais, enabling them to provide food long after the physical donations have run out. We're asking those who are traveling to cover their own transport costs, so we can hand over everything we raise. We can still add more cars, drivers and passengers if you contact us ASAP.

Please give generously, so we can show that York supports the thousands stuck in Calais!

Heading for £1000 - thanks for all your help in growing the appeal total. All 20 of us are looking forwards to handing this money to the organisations working on the ground next weekend.
We're also planning a big send-off event on Friday 17th at 5.15pm outside St Michael le Belfrey, next to York Minster. Rachael Maskell MP will be amongst our guests and we're inviting the press, too. Do come along!

Wow! We've passed the £500 mark in a day! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. I've upped the target to £750 in case people think we've stopped collecting. Please keep sharing this page!
On the travel front - we're currently out of spaces for drivers and passengers unless someone else provides a car. There's a cheap ferry deal and we can probably find you a co-driver plus passengers. Just let us know.
We're also working on a 'Civic Send-Off' on the Friday evening (17th) with Rachael Maskell MP and the Lord Mayor!

We've raised £175 in our first 24 hours. Remember, this isn't to fund the cars and passengers getting to Calais - all money raised is being taken to organisations like CalAid who work in the camp. With less media attention, they're desperately low on donations.
Also, we have a very few spare spots for anyone who can assist with driving a car or for passengers - but we need to know within a week.
Finally, look out for our bucket collections at People's Assembly (Monday 6th) and 'The People's EU referendum debate' (Tuesday 7th), both at the Quaker Meeting House at 7.30pm, plus other events.
