thank you for taking the time to read about Cailin. Cailin is our miracle girl. She was born prematurely at 27 weeks, weighing just over 2lbs. She was a beautiful and healthy baby and we were so lucky to have her! At the young age of 1 was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.
Doctors have told us many things about her progress through the years but ultimately, cailin is wheelchair bound and unable to walk without a lot of assistance. She has to have full time care, yet she is a bright, energetic and enthusiastic girl who loves to laugh and learn in school. She does her best to keep up with everything she does yet she faces so many challenges everyday, always with a smile on her face.
We have tried many, many procedures throughout the years but this medical procedure is one I have held off on until cailin was of an age to make the decision she wanted to give this a try. It was recently that she agreed to give this a try. Since this is not approved in the US, it is completely uncovered by insurance. The costs to cover the treatments will be well over 20k.
as her parents, we have struggled with the decision to ask for help in trying to raise the funds for her as we have always taken care of her needs, but this one is time sensitive since the younger the patient the better the results.
this stem cell treatment may help cailin become a bit more mobile, suffer less pain and stiffness, and may help her therapies become overall more effective and in the future may help her gain more independence, which is all she wants - so she can be a normal 16 yr old girl. The reports of children with cerebral palsy getting these treatments have resulted in kids gaining back mobility, for that I would give my own mobility.
Cailin In lives in the wonderful Long Island Community of Farmingdale, NY. She attends Farmingdale high school and in the fall will be a junior. She lives with her parents and 2 brothers and she is very grateful that you have taken the time to consider her story.
