Helping Hands for Chip and Cory

No one truly understands the tremendous hardship of Lou Gehrig’s disease until it happens to someone you love. This horrible disease has inflicted someone very close to us, our friend Chip Fanelli.
As many of you know, Chip began to lose the use of his left hand last summer. After many tests over the last year, Chip’s diagnosis was confirmed – ALS. As a die-hard baseball fan, it is ironic that this fun-loving, high-spirited guy has been inflicted with such a devastating disease named after the legendary baseball player.
Over the last year, Chip has lost most of the ability to use his hands, and for a self-employed photographer, that means losing his livelihood. His ability to walk is slipping away each day. His wife, Cory, remains optimistic and courageous, as she and their sons Colin and Charlie all prepare for what’s ahead. The burden of this disease is tremendous. ALS is crippling – physically, emotionally and financially – and there is no cure.
Chip and Cory have always been there when we needed them most. They have made us laugh, lifted our spirits and lent a hand when we needed one. Now it’s our turn.
Because ALS is robbing Chip of the use of his muscles, the most pressing need they have is to turn their home into a place where Chip can live comfortably and independently for as long as possible. They urgently need to remodel the bathroom to make it handicap accessible. Within a few months, they will need to widen doorways, build ramps, mount safety devices and install household improvements that will help Chip remain in their home with dignity. Access to an adapted vehicle for transportation to medical appointments will follow.
