Colm's Camino Walk for the Hospice

Donation protected
Hi everyone

I've signed up to walk the Camino de Santiago in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) this September.

Well, not all of it! But a week-long trek taking in the most famous Camino route, the French Way.  Starting in Sarria, the route winds through the beautiful Galician landscape and finishes in the historic city of Santiago de Compostela.

I'll be walking to remember our daughter Blathnaid and my Mam and to raise money for a cause very close to my heart.

The Irish Hospice Foundation strives for the best care at end of life and provides practical support for loved ones at an incredibly difficult time.  The IHF is the only national charity dedicated to dying, death and bereavement in Ireland.  THF believes everyone has the right to be cared for and to die with dignity and respect in their care setting of choice. Its mission is to strive for the best end-of-life and bereavement care for all.

Just 10 weeks ago, my Mam slipped away after a brave battle with brain cancer, her devastating diagnosis having coming less than a year previously.

Our experience as a family of the Hospice was an incredible one.  It is difficult to capture in words how fantastic the team at St. Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown are; how deeply grateful we are for the way in which they cared for Mam's every need and the empathy shown to us as we came to terms with the journey she was on.

Mam’s illness came with such shock.  She was living life as she always did at 100mph and cancer was the furthest thing from her mind.  As she did with everything in life, she faced her illness with fortitude and courage; and with a deep conviction that she would do everything she could both to get better and to continue to live life to the full.

The team at the Hospice provided her with holistic care in a spirit of dignity, with respect and compassion.  They surrounded her with laughter and love as well as taking care of every medical and other need.

I am walking so that others and their families will be able to take the final steps of their journey with the care and support they need.

I will be so grateful for your support.

Thank you
