The Legacy of ORWP
ORWP (Olimpiakan Reservner Water Polo), a nonprofit, grassroots club, was founded in 1999 by Vahik and Marine Arakelyan with the help and dedication of their family and friends. The founding of ORWP was initiated to ensure that parents such as the Arakelyan’s could offer their children opportunities and benefits through various aquatic sports such as swim and water polo. ORWP, a recognized member of the USA Water Polo National Governing Body, is a recreational club for children between the ages of 6-18. Lessons in discipline, responsibility, dedication, compassion, and teamwork are engrained in them from a young age; their passions are encouraged, nurtured and fueled throughout their childhood and adolescence helping shape them into commendable youths of the society.
The members of ORWP Club have competed and won in regional, national, and international competitions, receiving countless accolades and recognition. The legacy, however does not end when the members exit the club, but continues with the students, some of which have received full scholarships to universities such as the University of Southern California, San Diego, and return to coach the younger generation of ORWP members.
Need and Request:
The parents and staff of ORWP Club have worked tireless hours to secure training locations in neighboring cities such as Burbank, Glendale, and North Hollywood, utilizing facilities such as the YWCA and various high schools’ pools. However, their options are becoming limited, as pools have closed due to budget cuts or construction. Therefore, ORWP is respectfully seeking donations from its members and community to raise $200,000 so they may build their own aquatics center, complete with full facility amenities such as showers, locker rooms, parking spaces, equipment, etc. This facility will be a training center, home for competitions, and an arena open to the public once fully in operation.
