Late Monday afternoon, Fort Smith police released more details about a man who is accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend while her 2-year-old daughter was inside the home.
According to probable cause arrest affidavits, 21-year-old Douglas True, told police he found, 22-year-old Briana Butler's body in the bathroom in the middle of the night, after the couple had a fight. But True, who said he was intoxicated, passed out and didn't call police until the next day.
"No human being deserves to be done like that," said Joshua Butler, who was previously married to Briana Butler. Their 2-year-old daughter, Bonnie, was inside the Fort Smith home when the alleged murder occurred.
"She always made sure Bonnie had what she needed," said Butler.
According to police reports, Briana Butler was found lying in the bathroom floor of her home on Sunday. She had been stabbed to death. Reports cite lacerations to her throat and torso consistent with injuries sustained from a knife.
Butlers' family tells 40/29 News that she was seven months pregnant.
Police arrested Douglas True on suspicion of murder. He is being held without bond in the Sebastian County Detention Center and will go before a judge Wednesday morning to be arraigned on capital murder charges.

Butler's daughter was taken to the hospital; police say she had bruises on her face.
"To take your anger and rage out on another person and just totally take them out, I mean that's just, cowardly right there," said Joshua Butler.
The child has been released from the hospital and is recovering.
True faces two counts of capital murder since Briana was pregnant at the time of her death.
