Disha Girls Home, Varanasi, India

The Disha House is for girls that were rescued from living in the streets of Varanasi, India. There are 22 girls from 7-17 years old that live in the house and they need to urgently buy a new home as the one they are living in is too close the Ganges river and with climate change it is now being flooded in the monsoon season. The house is run by a private NGO based in Paris and was founded by Elisabeth Bernard 9 years ago. (www.actandhelp.org)
I am helping them raise funds for the down payment for the house and I also teach English as a volunteer to the girls on my trips to Varanasi, India.
The funds are needed immediately before the rainy season starts.
This is not just any orphanage, they are all well-balanced, intelligent, kind children who are doing extremely well at school, dance, emotionally and even at karate!
Without the Disha house, they would be married off as child brides by extended family members and would become domestic slaves to husbands families (often 3X thier age).
Disha house is their only chance. None of them were even in school before they were rescued and the tranformation is absolutely incredible.
The incredible aspect about Act & Help is that it is a small and hands on charity, its not a giant organization, so every little bit counts and you can see directly your contributions.
