Butter's ACL surgery

Butter is a 6 year old Australian Shepard mix and one of the most intelligent and sweetest dogs you will meet. Anyone who has met her will agree. Her favorite activity is playing fetch and loves going on hikes! 2 years ago, she had been diagnosed with an mild ACL injury. After x-rays, VCA animal hospital determined she had an ACL tear but not severe enough for surgery. The orthopedic surgeon decided to put off the surgery because it's a very painful procedure and did not want put her through it. Ever since then, at 4 years old, she has been living in a bubble, unable to run. She has been living a very restricted life. She can only take a short walk around the cul de sac in order to prevent her injury from worsening.


3 weeks ago, we decided to take her to the park to enjoy some fresh air. The next day, she was limping and barely able to put any pressure on the leg. Two weeks later, her condition did not improve even with the pain killers and glucosamine supplements. She is now struggling to walk. The only time she walks around is to greet people at the door and within minutes, she limps back to her bed. A bed where she stays for almost 8-12 hours a day for the past 2 weeks. On Feb 1, we went to revisit Dr. Old and he said that "it was time." He could hear her leg popping from a torn meniscus. For two years, she has been unable to do things that normal dogs do or enjoy her life at a young age. Right now she is hopping on 3 and we just want to give her the ability to move again and allow her to enjoy doing all the activities she used to be able to do - running around at a park or taking a hike around the canyon.
