Baby Shower for Buttercup's Baby!

We found out that Buttercup (our rescued cow) is pregnant! This within the same week of rescuing our little Daisy!
That's right! Little did we know, when we rescued Buttercup, that we were actually rescuing two cows! We did not realize at the time of her sale that Buttercup was already pregnant. Even though she is a very young cow, it is common for dairy cows to get pregnant at an early age. They are bred to go into heat as early as seven-months old so the industry can start them early and work them hard.
Usually, dairy cows are never allowed to raise their own calves; they are removed from their mothers at a very young age. The female calves are raised to become replacement dairy cows and the bull calves are sold for veal or beef. Cows are deeply nurturing mothers, so losing their babies year after year is very hard on them. Buttercup is a most fortunate cow. She will not only be allowed to nurse her baby, but will be able to raise it as well.
Buttercup’s baby (who we have nicknamed "Butter’s Bun”) will be a blend of Jersey and Angus, since the bulls she was pastured with were Angus bulls. She is approximately five months pregnant and expecting her baby in late December or early January. We couldn’t be more pleased - we cannot wait to share this incredible journey with you all!
Your donations will help support Buttercup, her baby, and Daisy during the upcoming year. We do not plan to stop with just these cows, however. Our plan for the future is to buy a farm of our own and rescue more farm animals from a life of drudgery and pain. To be able to provide a safe haven for these beautiful creatures would be to realize a long-cherished dream.
